Summer can go diaf

Aug 05, 2010 11:15

Reasons why I should move to Dublin, Seattle, Canada, or the Arctic Circle:
  • I hate heat. I hate even mild heat. When it gets over 80, I am grumpy. Over 90, and I hate everything.
  • I don't like direct sunlight. It often gives me a headache. I strategically structure my walk to work so as to optimize the amount of shade I walk through. Lying in the ( Read more... )

EVERYTHING YOU JUST SAID, YES. Hi, I usually lurk around here. :) I live in Virginia, and can't even go outside in the summer. Spring and fall only last a day or two each, and I hate it. I vacation in the UK as often as possible, and keep telling the husband that we should either retire there or somewhere in the US with a similar climate. (Although, where would that be? Oregon?) Am going to Ireland in four weeks. (Not Dublin, though. Galway/Limerick/etc.) And I can't wait to get out of this 100 degree plus heat and humidity!

O hai! I'm rather flattered that you lurk, for I think you are swell. :) ♥ I just popped by your journal (nothing personal - I am totally behind on ALL LJ, sigh) and firstly, your header is GORGEOUS, and secondly, OMG KATEE SACKHOFF WAS WEARING A SPAIN JERSEY WE ARE NOW IN A FIGHT. *ahem* Just kidding, just kidding. But first Jared and Jensen, now her? Why does no one have any taste? ;) Aw, Shore Leave. My only actual convention experience - it was so great.

Anyway! Back on topic! Yes, heat is the devil. I can't even imagine living in Virginia. I think the Pacific Northwest is the closest equivalent to the UK and Ireland weatherwise - when I visited Seattle it had a very similar feel to Dublin, in terms of atmosphere, even though the cities are very different. I would highly recommend there or Portland! :)

Yay Ireland! The whole country is beautiful. Make sure you take a drive down the cliffs on the west coast south of Galway! The limestone Burrens on one side, Atlantic Ocean on the other. Gorgeous.

Wait for a similar post in a few months from me about why winter needs to die in the most firey pits of HELL. Being cold is the devil (which always begs the question, why the heck do I live in Chicago?).

Aw, I like the cold! Not SUPER DUPER cold, necessarily, but I love cuddling up in a thick sweatshirt with a mug of hot tea and a pair of cozy socks. I also love burrowing in a down comforter at night. Different strokes! :)

True! Heh, see, ALL COLD is miserable to me. I shut down and can't function in the cold. (Secret robot, ahoy!) You want to make me hate the world, stick me in an over-air-conditioned room. Tea and comforters and all that are nice, I don't disagree! Cool weather I can deal with, but it always reminds me that the disgusting 19-month sunless winter is on its way.

Oog. Having moved from 55 deg N to 40.74 deg N, I completely sympathise. I too prefer the cold, though funnily enough I quite like the winters down here. Climatic patterns are funny things.

See, normally I LOVE summer. Everything about it! I don't mind bugs, I like sunshine, I don't burn easily, I love sundresses... I am like DESIGNED for summer!

But THIS summer, oh my god. I live in Tennessee, right, so I'm used to hot summers. But this summer is the hottest in 17 years in my area, the humidity is far worse than usual, and every time I step outside I want to die because you can literally FEEL the humidity against your skin, which I've found is impossible to describe to people who have only experienced dry heat but OH MY GOD IS TERRIBLE. I mean, right now outside it is 96 degrees with 50% humidity. WORDS CANNOT DESCRIBE HOW MISERABLE THAT IS, AND THE WORST PART IS THAT IT'S ACTUALLY COOLED OFF SINCE YESTERDAY.

Um, I have a lot of thoughts and feelings on the weather right now.

I am the exact opposite of you in terms of weather preference, but I'm sure you figured that out as I chose to live in Florida after growing up in New York City. When it's cold and dark at 4:30 PM outside I get irritable and depressed and want the world to go die in a fire. When it's 85 degrees out and humid I just go out for long drives and go windowshopping and party it out until it gets dark at 8:30 PM. (I may have mild seasonal afflictive disorder, so the dark GETS TO ME.) I have crazy dry skin, so cold weather just makes me want to scratch my skin off and I hate it so very much; the humidity of warm weather means I actually feel normal for a while. I love Southern sweet tea, which can only be served cold, and ice cream, and granitas, and all things sweet foods made to chill you down ( ... )
