Dr. Horrible - or Billy, since he was in his civilian clothing - lay in the grass by the train, his hands folded over his chest lightly and staring up at the sky, watching the fireworks quietly. It was strange, he surmised, how long it'd been since he'd been away from his lab, his henchman, and everything. He was almost starting to get used to it all.

And a vacation wasn't all that bad, now that he thought about it. He'd just thought he'd have been with Penny by the end of the year. Well...That was what resolutions were for, weren't they? He shut his eyes and thought.

"She's pretty good at what she does already," Dr. Horrible began, defensively. "She's an invaluable assistant who doesn't drop everything I hand to her."

After dealing with Moist on many different heists, Dr. Horrible had learned not to underappreciate the value of someone without excess sweat glands.

Tsuuma blinked. "I... I never said she wasn't." She shifted uncomfortably. "I'm sure she's a very good assistant. I just said that I think she'll be a success in the future." Tsuuma needed to think a bit more about how she phrased things. That's twice this evening someone had misunderstood.

Dr. Horrible blinked back, and rolled his shoulders to relieve the stress of lying down for so long.

"Sorry." he said, wincing a little. "I didn't..mean to snap."

"I-It's all right." Tsuuma gnawed a bit on her lower lip. "Apparently my phrasing of thins isn't very good tonight. You're not the first person to misunderstand something I've said."

"No?" he asked, looking up. "Someone else besides me was giving you trouble?"

"Oh. I ran into Soryu-san a bit earlier. We ended up on the topic of Viral and that he'd had to leave Memusu and I and she thought he had abandoned us." Tsuuma shifted uncomfortably, not liking the thought of anyone thinking so badly of Viral.

Frowning, Dr. Horrible climbed carefully to his feet.

"Well, look at it this way. One of you has never met Viral, and the other's known him better than any other person for years and years. So who do you think has the best interpretation of his actions?"

"I know I know.. I tried to explain to her but she didn't really understand." Tsuuma gave a very awkward laugh. "Though apparently I didn't know him as well as I had thought."

"Really? The way you talk about him all the time, I find that hard to believe." joked Dr. Horrible, breaking into a smile.

Tsuuma gave a small laugh. "Yes well, do remember that he had a whole other life outside of the dream he lived in with me."

Dr. Horrible was the only one she felt really comfortable talking about Viral with. It just seemed inappropriate to talk about with Madarame for some reason, and it jsut seemed a bit awkward with the others. Maybe because her friendship with Dr. Horrible had been built on talking about such things.

"Though I'm sure if he'd been aware of it to tell me, he would have."

"I'm sure he would have. Though, I wouldn't be so worried about the other-lives bit. There's a lot science hasn't figured out yet, so for all we know, there could be a dozen or more similar "dream universes" running parallel to each other. If that's the case, then the Viral you know is as real and genuine as anyone."

Dr. Horrible blinked, and reached up to scratch his scalp. "Well...it's more complicated than that, but there's so many theories, it's hard to simplify into what's known and what's unknown."

"No. I know he's real." Tsuuma shook her head a bit. "The life we had was real, and it will still be real when I go back. It just wasn't the one he was supposed to be living."

She looked up at the fireworks, able to enjoy them quite a bit now that the noise that went with them had been dulled. "He was meant to serve a far greater purpose than being my husband. And I'm proud of him for that."

"It sucks, though." Dr. Horrible scowled, clenching his fist as a slight eye tick took over. "It sucks that you and him aren't together, that forces of the universes conveniently converge to keep you apart and it sucks that you won't see him. In fact, it worse than sucks. It's horrible."

Put out with the fact that true love doesn't always happen like in the movies, Dr. Horrible crossed his arms and glared up at the sky.

Tsuuma looked over at Dr. Horrible. Her ears drooped a bit at his statements. She had to think about it for a moment before shaking her head again. "I know I'll never see him again. I've come to accept that. But I know that he loved me, and that he still loves me now even if there is no way we can go back to what we had."

Tsuuma took a deep breath, nodding a bit, more to assure herself of this idea than anything else. "I consider myself lucky for the time we had. And I'm proud that I was able to have a life with someone like him." She smiled and looked over at him again. "My Tepplin was a dream that his heart created, so Memusu and I are always with him, even if he's not always with us."

He rolled his head to look over at Tsuuma, still unsmiling. "It's still unfair. It still isn't right how things worked out."
