"I would love that!" answered the girl, sure that if they worked together, they might be able to figure it out a lot better than by themselves.

Kukaku looked at the item, tilting her head a bit. She was used to all sorts of weird items from when Kaien and Miyako had been alive. That wasn't what bothered her...

"You didn't get this from some freak named Kurotsuchi did you?" Because if he was involved, she was bailing. He had always freaked her out.

Ned looked at his own transporter as well, curiously turning it over.

"Seems...deceptively simple." he spoke up, looking a little wary. "What's the catch? There's...almost always a catch to these kinds of things. I mean, maybe this remote won't bring us back at all. Maybe it'll send us someplace..worse." The piemaker looked a little green at the thought.

"I can't imagine too many places that would be worse." Kukaku huffed, still examining the device. "I'm sure if I thought about it I could list three or four. At least the Women's Association didn't get a hold of it. Then it'd be a bunny or something."

she thanked the stars that Kaien had never needed to walk around with one of those damned "soul candy" things. They seemed so undignified for a man.

"That seems a little sexist." Ned remarked, pocketing the device. "How can they be a women's association when not all women are the fluffy bunny-and-kitten type?"

Looking around, he wrapped his scarf tighter around his chin and neck. "Well, we're wasting daylight hours. Should we head in?"

Kukaku sighed and tucked the device into her top. "Their president is a little girl. A little girl who you do not want to disagree with." Kukaku made a rather unpleasant face. Thankfully she'd never encountered Yachiru personally, but she'd heard stories. Unpleasant stories.

Kukaku looked to the entrance of the maze and nodded. "Might as well. Not getting anything done standing around here."

"Oh, I don't know about that." Ned spoke up easily, his hands behind his back. "I'm certainly learning more about you and your world, and that could come in handy, eventually."

Stepping forward into the alleyway, he turned and waited for Kukaku. "Coming?" he asked, with a smile.

"Believe me." Kukaku sighed. "This kid is a monster. Some kind of adorable pink-haired little monster." As if that wasn't enough there was also Captain Zaraki tyo deal with, but she decided to avoid that subject for now.

Kukaku rest her hand on her hip, following behind Ned. "And yet I still know nothing about you other than that you're Kisuke except with pie instead of potentially deadly science. I'll have to remedy that at some point during this ordeal."

"And I still barely know your Kisuke, so I'm not sure whether to take that as a compliment or insult."

Ned, relaxing his shoulders, looked back towards Kukaku. "I told you I was a private kind of person." He turned his head around, looking at the start of the maze.

"...Huh. Ever done something like this before?"

"It's a compliment." Kukaku laughed a little. "He's one of my closest friends. Don't see him much anymore, but he hasn't gotten himself killed yet, so there's that at least."

"And I told you that I don't care." Kukaku grinned a bit, "I'm gonna figure you out. I don't know how, but I am."

She looked to the entrance of the maze and sighed. "Not really. The Seireitei's a bit of a maze, but normally I have someone with me who knows their way around.. Or I just start blowing my way through walls, which I sadly don't have the equipment to do here."

"Well, you're welcome to try," Ned grinned back, "But I can't promise you'll find out anything. And I'm glad, and a little worried to be so interesting to you."

Looking back to the maze again, Ned frowned. "I read somewhere, once, that if you keep on following the left wall of a maze, you'll reach the end. Never found out if that was true or not, though. And it would probably take a long time to test."

"You obviously don't know me well enough to know that I don't give up." She laughed a bit. "Lost and arm and I'm still making explosives. Trying to hide things from me only makes me more persistent."

That's just how she was. Kukaku didn't like not knowing things about people close to her. Especially not after what had happened to Kisuke. "... Do me a favor. Never get into potentially dangerous science."

She looked up at the buildings, "Well this is less of a maze and more of a city, but I suppose the same idea could apply. Strategy is strategy."

:I've been at this for nineteen years," spoke Ned, raising his bushy eyebrows. "So I think I've got an advantage. No offense. And...I wouldn't know much about science. Practically failed biology at school." Of course, he nearly failed for entirely different reasons than Kukaku might suspect.

"I don't know where I heard it from, though," he admitted. "It might just be a bunch of lies and myths and rumors."

"I've been at this for more than a century, kid." Kukaku grinned, tacking 'kid' on to remind him that she was a lot older than she seemed. "I think I've got the advantage."

"Shinigami and spirits are rumors where you come from too, and look who you're living with." She shrugged. "Anything's worth a try once."

Ned blinked, biting his lip at "kid." Oh, that's right. He'd have to stop thinking Kukaku as being around the same age as him, despite whatever might be visually obvious.

"Well..all right then," he conceded. "But I'm going to feel very guilty about this if we use my idea and I end up getting you stuck somewhere."
