Gloria Steinem has some thoughts on this whole Palin thing: It’s not about a piece of the pie.  It’s about a whole new PIE.

Please, understand that I’m a neo-feminist (as I was termed today.)  I don’t believe that women have the right to be anything a man is.  I believe that women ( Read more... )

believe that women have the right to be ANYTHING THEY WANT TO BE. Parent, CEO, spelunker, soldier, farmer, model, hair stylist, waitress, senator, president.

>> Yes.. Exactly.. If they can do the job, put then in there!

But we'll have to disagree on Gloria's thoughts.

It won't work. This isn't the first time a boss has picked an unqualified woman just because she agrees with him and opposes everything most other women want and need.

What more does she need to do to be the VP?!? Just because she espouses values that the base of the republican party agree with does NOT make her an invalid candidate.. I don't agree with her social conservative views but that's not a valid reason to invalidate her nomination.

Selecting Sarah Palin, who was touted all summer by Rush Limbaugh

And I'm gonna guess this is the reason for her dislike of Palin.

I defend her right to be wrong, even on issues that matter most to me.This is just an asinine statement to make. As above, different viewpoints don't make someone wrong, they make for difference ( ... )

How about this... She's invalid to what you site as the feminist view. But she's perfectly valid to other women not marching in step with that view. To that end, you won't vote for her but other women will because they align themselves with her views. (And again just because I don't believe in her social views, I don't think she should not be the VP candidate.)

That she won voters and popularity by giving money back to the people. In 2006, running on a clean-government platform, Palin defeated then-Governor Murkowski in the Republican gubernatorial primary ( ... )

I surprised you aren't APPALLED at her statement about reading suspects their rights. Let me recap:

"Al-Qaida terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America ... he's worried that someone won't read them their rights?"

WTF? The whole point of American is the fact that everyone has rights. Everyone gets a chance to prove their are innocent. The fact that she says this makes me LIVID. McCain DARES go up and say he fell in love with his country because it stood for an ideal...after Palin said THAT? What ideals are left?

This woman is not a feminist. Is not supportive of Women's rights. Is not supportive of anyone's rights. How can we let someone like that into the White House to affect people's ideas and have an influence on law?

Let's add that the WHOLE Republican set of speeches were fear-mongering and divisive. That's not the sort of government I want anymore. I'm tired of all the fear tactics. I'm ordering some hope, thankyouverymuch.

randy_68 we already have socialism in this country. we just have just combined the worst part of socialism and the worst part of capitalism and BOOM! you have our country. you can't deny that this machine we are running is broken and it needs to be fixed. the solution is simple but it will never come around bc it just doesn't make enough money for the corporations. yup. We are well on the way to a welfare nation. The machine is broken, and in some areas just doesn't exist anymore. That's why I believe in term limits for senate and the house of reps. Too many of those people have been there too long ( ... )
