A note on names:
There's something of a naming tradition in Fullmetal Alchemist regarding the military personnel: almost everyone who serves (or has served) in the Amestrian military was named after a military vehicle, vessel or weapon. (Kimblee himself was named after the USS Kimberly, a name given to two United States naval destroyers that served in World War I and World War II, respectively.) Continuing with this tradition, Kimblee's Pokémon will be named after battleships and dreadnoughts, most of them World War II-era.
Current Team
- Ayanami ("Aya") - Kimblee and his starter seem to have finally found a compromise, naming-wise, that will make Kimblee facepalm a little less; Aya's namesake is the Japanese destroyer Ayanami, a Fubuki-class destroyer built for the Imperial Japanese Navy following World War I. She served as a front-line destroyer through the 1930s and well into the Pacific War; she was also the first ship to have specialized turrets that permitted her weapons to be used as dual-purpose guns against aircraft.
- Carlisle - Carlisle was one of the eggs Kimblee purchased from Xanxus, a Swinub named after a C-class light cruiser of the Royal Navy. The HMS Carlisle was launched in 1918 and reclassified as an anti-aircraft ship in 1940; she was credited as the top-scoring anti-aircraft ship in the Royal Navy.
- Dorian - The second of the eggs Kimblee purchased from Xanxus, Dorian was named after the Italian battleship Andrea Doria, a dreadnought of the Regia Marina. Completed in 1916 and extensively rebuilt between 1937 and 1940, she served in both World Wars; after the Armistice in September of 1943, the ship was interned by the Allies until after the war, when she was returned to Italy and served as a training ship until 1953.
- Richard - Received as an egg from Karkat, Kimblee's Squirtle was named after the USS Bonhomme Richard, an Essex-class aircraft carrier which served in the final campaigns of the Pacific Theatre of Operations, earning one battle star; she was modernized and recommissioned in the early 1950s as an attack carrier, after which she operated solely in the Pacific and played a prominent part in the Korean War, as well as Vietnam, earning another five battle stars.
- Abdiel - Yanma received as a Christmas present from Archer. She was named after the HMS Abdiel, an Abdiel-class minelayer that served with the Royal Navy during World War II. She served with the Mediterranean Fleet, the Eastern Fleet and the Home Fleet; she was designed for speed, and used as both a minelayer and a fast transport due to that speed as well as her capacity.
- Kistna - Received as an egg from Clive, also as a Christmas present, Absol was named after a Black Swan-class sloop which served in the Royal Indian Navy during World War II. The HMIS Kistna was primarily used for escorts, though she also performed support duties in Operation Romulus, Operation Matador, Operation Dracula and Operation Zipper.
- Marat - Kimblee's first capture was named after the Russian battleship Petropavlovsk, a Gangut-class dreadnought renamed the Marat in 1921 after the crushing of the Kronstadt Rebellion. She represented the Soviet Union at the Coronation Naval Review in 1937, bombarded a coastal artillery position in Finland during the Winter War, and provided gunfire support for the Soviets during the Siege of Leningrad.
- Mariya - Accidentally captured by Kimblee on Route 44 thanks to something of a wager with Archer, Mariya's namesake was a Russian dreadnought that saw combat in World War I, serving with the Black Sea Fleet. The lead ship of her class, the Imperatritsa Mariya provided cover for older, pre-dreadnought battleships as they bombarded Ottoman facilities.
- Pride - Another received as a Christmas present from Clive, and kind of making Kimblee not want to live on this planet anymore. It's breaking the naming tradition in that it's a massive set of jaws attached to a cute thing, and therefore it is just...Pride. That is all.
