Wa~h

I'm working in Nagasaki right now and a lot of my students are from Nagasaki University :D I really enjoy the city, it's not so big but easy to get around, and Fukuoka's just a 2 hour bus ride for the occasional shopping spree. It's really hot down here right now though and from what I hear it'll continue to be so until late September or October, so...yeah, prepare lots of short-sleeves. The good thing is there's AC in almost every building so as soon as you go inside it cools down.

Thanks for the response and information! Fukuoka sounds pretty awesome as far as shopping goes, so I'll definitely check it out since I'll be making school trips there and it's somewhat close. :)
Yeah, the heat is definitely something I'm going to have to get used to since this is the time of year where it starts getting cooler in my hometown haha. Thank goodness for AC!
Thanks again!

Heh, I've heard the same thing as above about a heat wave of sorts lingering across Kyushu. The absolute worst heat I've experienced in Japan was on a daytrip to Nagasaki, I mainly went there for the purpose of visiting Gunkanjima (did a post about it here) but otherwise it seemed like quite an agreeable place to be. But anyway, back to Fukuoka - like most other major Japanese cities you can go out and have a ball doing the usual things like eating, karaoke, drunk purikura, riding a ferris wheel, etc. :)

Anyway, I spent a year living in Kumamoto but never actually visited Fukuoka. Plenty of friends have told me it's a nice city, but I never really had a specific reason to visit (I certainly wouldn't go travelling just to shop, heh) so I never went. Although a lot of other friends also went to visit Huis Ten Bosch in Nagasaki Prefecture and said it was an unusual experience, so if you're in Nagasaki for a year you'll possibly end up there at one point or another. :P

Thanks for the response and information! The heat is probably going to be the most difficult thing for me to get used to, so I'll try to take it easy on myself when I get to Japan. ^^
I believe that we get to go to Huis Ten Bosch for a day trip or something, but if not I will definitely ask my host family if we can go sometime!
I think I will just do some of the "usual things" in Fukuoka since I will probably be suffering from jet lag still when I'm there! Thanks for the advice! :D

Thank you for the response and great suggestions! The websites will definitely be useful, and I'm glad to hear that the airport will have lots of information as well. I'll probably be pretty jet-lagged when I'm in Fukuoka, but I am determined to do some fun things while I am there!
Thanks again! It sounds like Fukuoka and Nagasaki are pretty great cities, I am really looking forward to going abroad!

Wow, lucky you!!!
Nagasaki is one of the best cities I've ever been to. Unfortunately I don't live there and have been there only for a short period of time.
Nagasaki is really beautiful, so beautiful that you can't really see that there was the atomic bomb attack years ago.
I loved the Clover Garden (was that the name?) there and the Dutch "city" (forgot the name, too).
If that helps, here's all my entries about nagasaki and fukuoka:

Thanks for the response!
Is it Glover Garden maybe? I will definitely make my way there and to the Dutch city (Huis Ten Bosch?), I am pretty sure we have field trips to those, which is really exciting! I don't think I'll be bored at all when I'm in Japan, haha ^^
I really enjoy your blog, and your pictures are gorgeous! Would you mind if I friended you?
