Not free, but a good and pretty cheap internet / manga cafe in Namba is called "B@gus." I've been there multiple times. For thirty minutes it is only like 150 yen!! They also have unlimited free drinks and ice cream! I forget what street exactly it's on, but there is a huge tanuki on the building that is really hard to miss.

Do you know where Labi is? If you're living in Daikokucho (I lived there until two weeks ago, now I'm in Ebisu, so we're still neighbors!) and you walk up towards Namba, you eventually hit that magazine/book shop, right? Turn right (towards the 390 yen ramen place) and keep going and there's Labi1. There WAS a free (one hour a day) net cafe there, but they just remodeled and I don't know if they've closed it or not. It's worth a look, though.

As for free wireless, I would, uh, just go outside and catch signals from random people. If you don't mind going to Umeda, the Seattle's Best has free wireless, and it's legit! McD's might; I always went with my e-mobile adapter (my old apartment was TOO OLD FOR INTERNETS) so I never had to use the wireless, if they have any, but it's worth a shot.

I'm sorry. I went months without net in Daikokucho and I seriously hunted like a madwoman for wireless. It was hard. If you have any questions about the area, though, please feel free to ask!

I registered with AIM and went through the whole interview procedure, etc. 6 MONTHS AGO and they still have not found me ANY students. They offered me a student ONCE and then called me back the next day to cancel the trial lesson because the student was no longer interested in taking lessons. Since then they just spam my phone with e-mail's about BBQ's and other crap that isn't dealing with anything about teaching so I e-mailed them and told them to terminate my contract and that I wish not to receive any more e-mails from them. Well the e-mails continued and THEN they started offering me students so I finally e-mailed them and just basically told them that I waited 6 months and was offered nothing and now had a full-time job and was no longer interested in working for AIM and wanted to be removed from their e-mail list ASAP.

Just my experience... I know some people that have actually had some good experiences with them but yeah...

If you are in an apartment, you can pirate internet from your neighbors via wireless for a while. It can get slow at times, but when you move and NTT will NOT SET UP YOUR DAMN INTERNET FOR MONTHS you can get desperate like that.
