I've been to the Yokosuka base! I have a friend who is stationed there for the navy (though he won't be back there until September, I think). It's a really large, really nice base ( ... )

Hey, you're going where I was when I studied abroad in Tokyo :) My boyfriend was stationed on the Navy base in Yokosuka at the time so I spent several weekends there as well. And a lot of my friends are from Yokohama and Chiba (slightly east of Tokyo ( ... )

Oh yeah, and get the Lonely Planet guide to Tokyo. I turned that baby inside out while I lived there for a year.

And NO WAY! My Navy boyfriend's name is Eric too! He's now stationed from Sasebo on the other end of Japan and is currently spinning his wheels on a boat near Burma.

Kamakura is known as little kyoto, so its a must.

You are close enought to go see Mt Fuji (about 2 hours to gotemba) and Hakone (about 3 hours including the bus)

You are really lucky to be living near a base, i live in the deepest pit of the inanka (but i managed to make a whole lot of friends in Yokosuka) and its nice to be so close to many english speaking people, but at the same time you get the joy of living in JAPAN!!!!

Good luck and have fun :)
