I am currently living in the outskirts of Osaka, and am going home to North America in August. Before I leave I would really like to purchase a Japanese iBook (mostly for the Japanese interface keyboard). Honestly for macs you can just get any regular iBook (or macbook... are you avoiding the price or the intel chip?) and buy a JP keyboard. If you don't want to install it yourself just get the Apple store folks on it.
Personally the Japanese layout drives me nuts, but I bought a MacBook Pro when they launched and just had them swap the keyboard back to US-101 before they gave it to me. It only takes them a few minutes.
