I've been living in Reunion island since September with my one true love working as an english teacher. Only now have we really settled in to the drastic change of lifestyle... and our acceptance that we probably still won't understand when people talk in creole by the time we leave. I haven't done anything whatsoever in spirit of the holidays. It makes me feel sad but everything is just too hectic to care about presents and decorations.

We haven't either and the postal service is so unreliable and expensive from here that it's not worth mailing presents back. I was just going to draw some ornaments, cut them out and hang them on the wall .. then eat lots of letchis and assorted chocolate.

I'm from Germany, living in Los Angeles and can never completely "get into the Christmas spirit" here. It's too warm, feels like spring or even summer, it's almost beach weather, really. On some level this is nice but it simply isn't Christmas-sy. Reunion sounds interesting.

That's kind of my same problem, the climate is just entirely backwards for me.
My co-workers just think I'm nuts though, they associate christmas with summer holidays at the sea & picnics!
