Christmas in Austria

Back from the holidays in Austria, where my husband has family. I think my kids think Austria *is* the North Pole, or very close to it - the original Winter Wonderland ( Read more... )

Thanks. They've never known any different. But now the Oma in question is fading so I don't know how many more Christmases we'll spend there...

It all sounds terribly magical. I read the Chalet School books as a girl (and also as a grown-up girl), and it's kinda heartwarming to see that the cool traditions haven't disappeared entirely since the 1930s (or even 1800s, maybe?)...

I went to Salzburg and Braunau almost 6 years ago. I thought Austria was so beautiful. I remember eating Apfelstrudel in a small pub on the top of the "schloss", that giant hill with the fortress on it. I have seen it in a shot in the Sound of Music. I hope to go back there someday.
