I mostly miss what I'm used to, a difficult thing to describe. I miss my family mostly, but after a few minutes on the phone I'm reminded of how irritating they can be :-)

I don't worry so much about missing out, as I know I'm doing something as interesting if not more so than being where I was.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. Here. There. Where?

People need each other. Sometimes you really can fill your life with new acquaintances you click with and have meaning with. Sometimes, you need to pick up and move to where they are. Sometimes, you need to sit and write to them and tell them everything they mean to you. And sometimes, you need to deal with being lonely.

I am not sure which you need to do, but I hope you figure it out.

I live in Denmark too! Though in Esbjerg, on the other side of the country from you.

I don't really miss home, I've been in Denmark for four years now and though Finland will always be my homeland, Denmark is where "home" is. It's still nice to go visit my family but my life is here now, not in Finland.

Even though I'm surrounded with people and have "friends," I get lonely. I sometimes find it hard to really connect to some of the people I'm around.

I'm English, though was mostly raised in Italy (also in Ireland), and am now going to uni in Ohio, USA. I often feel like the people here are colder and won't quite let me in, no matter how "close" we get. I sometimes get the feeling it's because they don't expect me to be here long, so they're not going to bother.

It's actually been getting me down a lot lately, so it's an odd coincidence you made this post!

When I moved to America from Spain for uni, I got the same response from people as well. You are actually a bit luckier than I was--I didn't really make any friends. I'm Cuban-American but only lived ages 0-9 in America (Florida and Ohio), the rest abroad with the family. I had a really tough time making friends, I found myself making such a big effort to fit in and make friends that I became exhausted. I hated living in Boston, I went back to Spain twice during my two year "stay" in America. I left 8 months ago--in sunny australia now.

My brother was born at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, where in Ohio are you?

I get that way a lot. I miss everything from home. Especially at this time of year. All the holidays and festivals, things Austria just doesn't offer. Also the things I did like theater and going to University all centered around the fall and I felt alive, now...there's next to nothing.

I always thought that moving would be a cure for things, but when I did move I realized how good things were back home.
