Interviews

My interview with Shell on Thursday went pretty bad. They were only interviewing 3 students on campus: Myself, my friend, and someone else [we dont know who]. My friend's interview was at 8:30am, and I imagine I would've had mine next if it weren't for the midterm i wrote that morning. My interview was at 1pm. Or rather, it was supposed to be. I was in the interview waiting room by 12:50ish talking to a friend who was also there, and I still hadn't changed my shoes. I wear a black suit to my interviews, but my sneakers are light grey/whiteish. The guy called me in early and I didnt get a chance to change my shoes! off to a great start. It was all downhill from there... The questions they asked me weren't very clear, and there were only 5 of them. I found myself asking them, after 4 of 5 questions, if I had actually answered them or not. Twice I had to ask for clarification...

Either way, the interview I had with Imperial Oil went much better. The guy interviewing me was a recent Chem Eng grad from uOttawa (2004!) and the questions were much clearer. I actually enjoyed the interview; he was very pleasant, and we seemed to get a long, not to mention that he was from Lakefield (appx 2 minute drive from my old house). I was being interviewed for 2 jobs with them at the same time; one of them involved being a leader of a design project (i do NOT want that job) and the other involved programming/computer interfaces for process control equipment (OMFG OMFG OMFG HIRE ME PLEASE PLEASSSSSE). The description i was provided for the second job before the interview didn't mention any of the shit he told me and suddenly i found myself really really wanting to work for them. Not to mention it pays almost twice as much as my last co-op job.. WOW. (!!!!!)

The final interview of that day was with the Royal Military College of Canada. I do not want to work for them. It was a waste of my time.. they didnt even ask me questions to see if I was fit for the job. The guy just kinda talked about what they do and lady wrote things down. What was she writing? I have no idea. But i tried to stretch it out longer than 10 minutes and asked them questions about their research process and how they analyze their results and crap like that.

I received an email at 5:30am on thursday morning from a company in toronto that I had signed up to through co-op. They're supposed to reply through co-op, but this guy emailed me (and some friends) instead with phone numbers and hours to contact him for a phone interview if i'm still interested in the job. I pretended to not read it until later that night and replied after i got home from my classes at 9:30pm apologizing for the delay and I said i'd call him tomorrow (ie: yesterday). I phoned after i got home yesterday, around 4pm, and received his voicemail... so i left a message saying thanks for the opportunity but i'm no longer interested (quite literally: ggkthxbye).

That left only one interview yesterday: Xerox. And I must say, it went really well. The lady sounded like she was pretty much ready to hire me over the phone right then and there, mostly due to my previous lab experience. However, being the dumbass I am, I told her that if she ranks me a #1 for employment I can't garuntee that i'll rank her as #1 back since other companies have expressed interest in hiring me. Mostly I'm hoping like hell that Imperial Oil takes me, even though it involves moving to the middle of buttfuck nowhere (that's a lie actually, sarnia's got a population about the same as peterborough's). Anyway, the Xerox interview went very well and I actually wouldn't mind working for them since it sounds like it would be a great experience and a healthy learning atmosphere :) Too bad I fucked up my chance by telling her i might not take the job, eh? go sim! woot! >:-(

p.s: whoops, it was time to break fast like 5 minutes ago.
