My new year's resolution is to do more reading...

Jan 04, 2011 22:09

I need some books to read during substituting for the rest of the school year but I read the two books that I'd been looking forward to over break so I would really, really appreciate anyone and everyone leaving me some books to read... a title, an author, a synopsis ( Read more... )

I'm open to anything really. I'm big into historical fiction and fantasy but I'm open to new stuff too.

The Alienist - Caleb Carr is a mystery novel set 1880s (I believe. Ish) New York involving an odd team of detectives trying to track down a serial killer. It's a little dense, but also really engaging and addictive. (There is also a sequel, Angel of Darkness.)

I'm about four chapters into the Alienist and I can see myself getting sucked in and finishing it next week. Thanks for the rec.

Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell is really amazing. The Historian, by Elizabeth Kostova, is a new take on the Dracula mythos, and it's quite a read. The Dante Club by Matthew Pearl is about a series of murders in 1880s Boston that all seem to be focused around Dante's Inferno.

You totally don't know me, but I thought that i would recomend you some books. Do you like any YA literature?

If you only read adult books i'd recomend:
Janet Evanovich. She's a fiction writer. She writes hilarious stories about a women who works as a bounty hunter. her other books are good too.

I'd recomend My Sister's Keeper by Jodie Picoult. It's the only I've ever read by her, and it was amazing! it's a little sad, but a teriffic read.

Meg Cabot writes good books. They're quirky and fun.

Two books I really like by Michael Crichton are: Prey, and Jurassic Park.

I'll try to think up more for later.

As much as I appreciate the suggestions I don't think our reading interests match up very well. I read My Sister's Keeper the summer that it was that book everyone was reading and found it incredibly predictable and boring.

I could possibly check out the Crichton books, though I find it hard to sink into anything by him aside form Timeline.
