191: April Rain Song

Apr 29, 2008 18:08

“April Rain Song”
Langston Hughes

Let the rain kiss you.
Let the rain beat upon your head
            with silver liquid drops.
Let the rain sing you a lullaby.

The rain makes still pools on the sidewalk.
The rain makes running pools in the gutter.
The rain plays a little sleep-song
            on our roof at night-

And I love the rain.

Oh, cool poem.

So, yeah...I don't really know what type of poem I'm looking for. My story is like a weird Beauty and the Beast type thing. So...anything that has that type of feel. Yeah, I know. I'm not really helping much. Um...I wanted something foreboding, maybe? Darkness/night kind of thing. But not depressing. I'm not much of a poetry person...

Is this at all the type of character relationship?

“Incident”
Norman MacCaig

I look across the table and think
(fiery with love)
Ask me, go on, ask me
to do something impossible,
something freakishly useless,
something unimaginable and inimitable

Like making a finger break into blossom
or walking for half an hour in twenty minutes
or remembering tomorrow.

I will you to ask it.
But all you say is
Will you give me a cigarette?
And I smile and,
returning to the marvelous world
of possibility
I give you one
with a hand that trembles
with a human trembling.

I saw this post and noticed the icon and the poem and thought to myself, "Did I post this here? I don't remember doing that." :) Not that I mind though I totally stole it from someone else forever ago :x

Oh, sorry. I should have asked before I went ahead and took it. I credited you though.

This is pretty good. Was he part of the Harlem Renaissance?

I posted this poem in my personal journal on one of the first days of April because it was raining.

And it has really been the theme of my month.

This is wonderful.
Thanks!
