My friend, Specialist Chris Bartkiewicz, was killed on Sep 30th 2008. I just started talking to his sister yesterday. I've been in Iraq over a year.

I am sorry about your friend. Maybe talking with his sister will help her (and maybe you too).

My first instinct when I hear that you're in Iraq is to ask how you are doing, but I guess that's a dumb question. It's hot, you're lonely, you want to come home? So I'll just say that I hope things aren't too bad over there, you're in my thoughts, and I'm trying not to take freedom for granted. Thanks.

I enjoy reading the poetry that you post whenever I get the chance, which luckily for me, has been very very often lately. That is thanks enough.

I am so sorry.

There is a youtube clip of her performing this live. I think you might like it.

I know it's almost blasphemous to suggest that this isn't a good poem, but in all honesty I don't feel it was skilfully handled. I think everything it tries to do is done to a higher standard (though in a slightly different tack) in Andrea Brady's 'Saw Fit' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RasH8QqDJl0).

Still, I respect the sentiment it's trying to get across and thank you for posting it.

Could you send the text to "Saw Fit" to me (exceptindreamsATgmailDOTcom)? Thanks.

I like the sentiment in this poem and I love the rhythm. It feels really good to read aloud.

to be honest i don't really like the way she reads it. i know it's her poem, but something about the way she reads it bothers me.

it's beautiful on paper though.

actually i take that back haha. i just listened to it a few more times and it grows on you eventually. it's definitely unlike any poetry reading i've heard before though.
