There are no more VHS tapes or playback equipment in the house.

Still got a cupboard full of VHS tapes, two boxloads of Betamaxes and even a handful of N1700s, Video2000s and Umatics. One day I will find the tuits to digitise them. No intention of chucking out the playback equipment either; but then I'm a rapacious collector of obsolete electronics!

I did equip myself to digitize them but it proved to be too much hassle; I've bought DVDs of the ones I cared about instead, and reckon that with appropriate costing of my time I'm ahead.

I really liked my Video2000, shame it failed to compete :-( I have been gradually replacing with DVDs what I both want to and can, but there are some things copied from the telly that aren't available on DVD which I would at some point like to digitise, but my priority list has a lot of things in front of that.

I've noticed quite a few charity shops recently with big signs up saying 'we don't want your stinking VHS tapes', or at least more polite words to that effect. What did you manage to do with them? Did you just have to chuck them out?

That's so sad! We still use our VCR quite a bit - I have it hooked up to record from the digibox.

I use iPlayer for time shifting (well, and in principle the ITV and C4 equivalents, but in practice mostly just the BBC).
