NOAA predicts this will be a craptastic hurricane season

Only, you know, they were a little more scientific about their word choice.

In a nutshell:

-- 85% chance of an above-normal season.

-- 14 to 23 named storms!! 8 to 14 hurricanes, 3 to 7 major hurricanes (that's Cat 3 or above ( Read more... )

I had forgotten, so I just looked it up. Last year was "50% chance of normal year, 25% above normal, 25% below normal." And then El Nino came along and everyone had to revise their outlook.

This year seems all the ingredients are coming together for a nasty season. Whether they actually do come together...well that remains to be seen.
