I just started getting caught up on Big Love and I am delighted with the new opening credits. Fucking GORGEOUS.

I loved the old opening credits and part of the DVD was a behind the scenes look at the filming and it was just so cool that they put so much thought into it. It has to be the same guy who did Six Feet Under's opening credits- which I ( Read more... )

I liked Big Love, but the wife who kept spending money even though she didn't have any to spend and was hugely in debt... Was too true-to-life and made me literally sick to my stomach.

Hell, its making my sick to my stomach right now.

FWIW, I've known a surprising number of people like that and they've all been women. I think with Nikki the shopping and over spending was a consolation prize/replacement for the compound and her position in both her birth and married-into family. It really is like they are trying to literally fill a void. Everyone I've known with serious spending problems had some sort of deep wound. A friend in high school- they appeared very middle class but they would have to return clothes to go to the grocery store because her mother was SO out of control.

For A, I think it was depression. It was, quite literally, retail therapy. She spent us into bankruptcy once (although, to be fair, it wasn't all her - the triggering event was a short hospital stay while we were laid off and had no insurance), but she's rapidly heading in that direction again.

At one point in the show, Nikki spends money then sits and cries about what she's done. I've seen A do that. It makes me want to throw up.

You'll have to keep me updated on Big Love. In a money-saving move, we got rid of HBO at house1, and house2 hasn't had it in years.

I downloaded them.
Want me to make Dutch write out step by step instructions?

We had a friend get sued for downloading stuff, so while it doesn't keep us from doing it he's very careful about how we do it.

I love the new BL opening credits!!! The song is PERFECT, the expression on all their faces & the reaching out & falling is just PERFECT. I was so glad they changed it up fro last season's, I mean it was good, but everything ended so much darker than it started & I was wondering if they'd keep that other one because it just doesn't fit the way they ended last season, the way this season had to start out.You know, the show started out so optimistic; it was like the worst problem any of them had was who got Bill for which night & then some hassle with the inlaws now & then, but it started out kind of fun & quirky & then it went really dark with murder & incest & insanity... & when I saw this season's opening sequence/credits I was honestly just breathless, because it was so beautiful, so perfect.

That's how it struck me. Their expressions were the only primer I needed to be up to date on where things left off and who they were.

We should write them a letter.

Loooooooooooooooove Big Love's new opening credits.

And Six Feet Under, omg. The series finale for that show made me do full-on ugly cry.

Six Feet Under was all about Crazy Brenda for me. I need to watch it again and focus on something else.

I don't think I focused so exclusively on one character over the other, but I found myself getting weepy over Nate's storylines much more frequently than the others'.

I don't know. I fucking love that show. To me, it's like the best that TV can be.

Nate's storyline resonated with me for many reasons. And, a few seasons into the show my uncle almost died from a ruptured AVM. Unlike Nate, he had no idea he had it.

Very beautiful. I stopped watching Big Love. Was last season good? Should I Netflix it and give it another chance? I was having trouble with the buying slot machines plot line.

I like the Mad Men opening.

I haven't watched any Mad Men yet- saving it for when I get the flu.
But those opening credits with the guy falling outside the building remind me first of 9-11 and second of the stock market crash.

Big Love is really good so far. Those crazy Hendricksons!

They will stop reminding you of those things once you watch the show.

Big Love makes me miss Utah. We lived a few blocks from a huge polygamous family. And yes, they really were polygamist. One or another in the family was always in trouble with the law, or else the law was causing trouble for them. I'd see the teenage girls shopping at Nordstrom rack all the time dressed very much like Nikki.
