You know what I don't like about my job? Shelf reading. Pretty much you walk through the shelves, making sure everything is in alphebetical or Dewey Decimal order. I really hate the alphebet right now. I did all of biographies, sci fi and young adult yesterday. I would so rather be shelving, but for some reason there's a volunteer shelver on ( Read more... )

Shelf reading is boring, but the best part of is that you find all sorts of interesting books you wouldn't otherwise. (At least, if said shelves are out of the view of the boss.) That and when I was shelfreading fiction, I used to arrange each author's books by publication order, going by the styles of the cover art. Though that may just be something that I found interesting. ;)

Once you get used to it you can go pretty fast, though.

Shelf reading is beyond boring. But it only has to be done every so often. And working the desk is fun!
