Is it a general linguistics class or a specific subject?

It's intro to Linguistics. I think I'm going to major in it -- any advice?

For the final, not really. An intro course will have a pretty comprehensive final.

I love linguistics. The hot fields to specialize in right now are language acquisition and anything to do with artificial intelligence. Several people have started doing research into on-line communication patterns.

But as a major, find a sub-field you love. (For instance, while many people go into language teaching, few specialize in speaking skills and phonology. That I did is how I got my job.)

Are you going to double major? Linguistics lends itself to that, with psychology or sociology or (of course) any language. Or really anything in the Social Sciences and Humanities, since language is the base for communication.

Well, I meant with the major in general -- I think that what I'm really interested in is the use of language rather than its formal structures. I'm really, really excited for the Advertising and Propaganda class I'm taking next semester, but I find the syntax stuff we're doing right now a little hard to focus on.

I almost definitely do not want to teach, as I'm not a very good teacher and I don't like teaching.

I might double major. I was thinking of maybe doing a Hispanic Studies minor because 1) I'm probably going to take a bunch of Spanish classes, 2) if I study abroad it will probably be in Latin America somewhere, and 3) there are a lot of Spanish focused linguistics classes like a Spanish language acquisition course and a bilingualism course.
