Anxious Revelations Robert’s phone vibrated in his pocket, causing him to jump. Normally it wouldn’t have been much of a problem, except he was in the middle of a perfect scene with Hugh. He apologized for the ruined take and quickly checked the ID, then frowned when he saw it was from Alan. Alan knew his schedule and knew better to call unless something was wrong. There had been no left messages, so Robert put the phone back in his pocket. He would call back during their next 15 minute break.
By the 5th call, Robert was used to the quick urgent buzzing against his leg, but Hugh noticed the way Robert rested his hand over his pocket each time a call came through. “An emergency?”
“Still hasn’t left a message yet.” Robert frowned and checked once again while the lighting was being adjusted.
There was a curse from the crew and a call for a time out.
Robert was in the break room, coffee cup in hand and about ready to speed dial Alan when the phone buzzed again and he almost dropped it. “Hey, Alan! What a nice surprise!”
“Unlike the one that greeted me today.” The tone was an angry snarl and Robert had to check to make sure it was his Alan that had called.
“What are you talking about?” Robert had been about to take a sip of coffee, but instead set it back down, scanning the room to make sure that he was alone.
“Don’t be daft, I saw the pics of you with that slapper.”
“What are you talking about?” Robert repeated, brow furrowed with confusion and concentration to make sure he was hearing things correctly.
“Robert, why not be honest with me?”
“Honest? Wha-- Alan, I have no idea what you are talking about!” He had never heard Alan sound so furious, and confusion was making his own temper rise.
“The pictures of you and your new bird.”
“Pictures?” Robert frowned.
“And her little article about how happy you are together. You probably didn’t think that I would find out,” Alan continued, oblivious to Robert’s confusion.
“Alan, please, calm down…”
“If you are done with your little sexual identity crisis and want to move on, then fine. But to be fucking blind-sided by this was cruel and unfair!” Alan was almost shouting, but he didn’t care.
“I wish I could...”
“No, no more lies and no more hesitation. I don’t want to hear it. Just live your life out in the open without having to hide out anymore. I am done. I can’t stay with you and wait for you to turn around and hurt me anymore. Good luck with the new bird.”
“Alan… wait!” Robert yelled, trying to break through, but all he heard was the dial tone. Slowly he lowered the phone from his ear. He felt like he had been hit by a freight train. His hands shook as he started to dial Alan back.
Hugh had been in the room for a few minutes, staying off to one side, giving Robert his privacy, and had heard him yell out Alan’s name. He approached, seeing the reddened face and frantic expression of his friend. “Robert? Are you okay?”
Robert pressed the phone to his ear and turned to Hugh. “I think Alan just broke up with me.”
