Ling could always feel her gaze on him. It didn't always bother him but sometimes, he hated the way she watched him, her eyes glowing through the holes in the mask. He hated that he couldn't see her face, watch her reactions, could only guess at what Ran Fan felt. Most of the time, she had no reaction; she was as quiet and stiff as one of the jade statues around the palace
