Yup. I agree with everything. Especially about the First--I think you nailed it: It's annoyingly subtle how effective it is.

The thing that bothers me most about season 7 are the continuity flubs (like the city is ABANDONED--but the Bronze is packed?)--but that's not something I really care all that much about, so... meh. The season is pretty much fine with me overall. And--yeah. It has some stellar episodes. And, then of course, there's the glory of S/B, baby.

lol, yeah, the continuity flubs are a bit... yeah. But I tend to be an annoying optimist and value the positive aspects more. So, solidarity.

And, then of course, there's the glory of S/B, baby.

I am in total agreement I KNOW YOU ARE SHOCKED.

The First Evil, especially. What else was Buffy's last antagonist going to be? She beat a freaking god. Her last fight has to be completely psychological. There is probably a whole biblical thing in there about Eve overcoming the wicked tempter but I haven't actually watched S7 in a while.

I AM ALWAYS SHOCKED WHEN PEOPLE AGREE WITH ME.

But word. EXCELLENT POINT ABOUT EVE AND THE TEMPTER THING. Someone should write an essay.

I agree with all of it. Well, except for the consistent quality - "Him" is a pointless piece of rubbish that just took up time that could have been better spent on something else. But overall, I love S7, I loved it from the first episode to the last. S6 (is my favorite, but it took the characters to dark places, and S7 had to pick up the pieces and have them all get up and rebuild themselves, and they all do - Spike, Buffy, Willow, Xander. It's about redemption and forgiveness, and even Andrew manages to do it. It's not just Spike and Buffy that I love - Xander is great, especially in "Selfless" and after (which I think is the crucial episode for him), he becomes really mature and likeable in this season (and I'm saying this as someone who used to dislike the guy in early seasons), and Anya's status/crimes are finally treated seriously; it was high time the show dealt with the parallels between Buffy's and Xander's relationships with mass murdering demons. I liked Robin Wood, I liked Andrew, and Potentials don't bug me as they do many ( ... )

Haha, yes, well, it is one blot in an otherwise consistent season to me.

Yeah, I mean, I can't ignore the weak points of the season, but I can't ignore the good points (as you've discussed) either, and those parts ultimately mean more for me? Like I said. Easy to please.

I' would disagree that "Conversations with Dead People" does not have much in the way of Spuffy. They don't interact, but it's the episode where Buffy finally honestly talks to someone about her relationship with Spike in S6

Hmm, yeah. I... actually agree, now that you mention it. Though, we are probably defining 'shippiness' very differently from most then!

It has some beautiful moments like Spike turning around those little angels

I also liked season seven, a lot. Mostly because of the character development, the alliances that were made i.e. (Buffy/Spike) and lost (Giles/Buffy). Being a Spike/Buffy shipper, I also think I love season seven because she finally "chose" Spike. Romance aside, she made him one of "hers" the way everyone else in the Scoobies were, and he never was up until then.

Conversations with Dead People is right up there for favorite episodes - I think because we for once get a Buffy that is more verbal about what is going on inside her head. I love that she chooses to tell someone who is practically a stranger, her enemy and trying to kill her to boot - that seems so in character for her. Also the actual dialog between her and Holden - great.
But! did not like the potentials, no, not even a little bit. They took precious screen time away from the characters I really cared about. They annoy me greatly.

Yeah, Buffy taking Spike in is fairly poignant at that point.

Ha, yes! Love it.

The potentials irritate me too, but I don't hate the idea of them so much, which means I'm more inclined to accept their existence.
