In the end Hina came and wondered if she would regret doing so as she went through the back door of the church. She didn’t know why she came…her body kind of like dragged her over here. I mean of course, as a best friend, she should come. She would never leave Ryosuke at times like these…as much as possible, she wanted to be with him. But then it wasn’t as simple as it seemed and her mind went back to that day he told her about his engagement…

“Okay. Today, I tell him how I feel. I’m finally ready. I will tell him,” Hina told herself in her head as she watched him browse through the menu, looking for something to eat.
“So Ryosuke…I have something to tell you,” Hina started, her heart thudding in her chest.
“Actually…,” Ryosuke said, putting down the menu to look at her. “I have something to tell you too, but go ahead. You first.”
Hina smiled and gave out a shaky laugh. “Okay…,” she said, getting ready. “The truth is…Ryosuke…I...I lo-“
“Ryosuke!!! I can’t believe you’re here!” Shizu said interrupting Hina, placing her hand on Ryosuke’s shoulder and Hina couldn’t help but notice the silver ring on her finger.
“I told you I was meeting Hina for lunch,” Ryosuke told her as he smiled apologetically at Hina, knowing that she didn’t pretty much like Shizu. No…actually she hated Shizu, she just didn’t show that much hate for Ryosuke’s sake.
“Oh! So you’ve told her!” she said looking right at Hina. “Actually, Hina, I was just by the area looking for the appropriate flowers for the wedding!”
Hina stared at Ryosuke, absolutely shocked...

Of course she was shocked. Even broke her heart and left her mopping for days, hiding from Ryosuke and excused herself due to the “flu”. No way she could’ve told him then. Plus, she told him that she wasn’t going to the wedding because of an important meeting. Ryosuke was considerate as ever and didn’t push her though he badly wanted her there. She knew she was being mean for saying no but she couldn’t stand watching her best friend, the man she loved, getting married to someone else…though things had turned out differently as here she is now going to the men’s dressing room to take a peek at Ryosuke.
“I will take a quick peek and leave,” Hina told herself, opening the door a little and peeked, seeing Ryosuke as handsome as ever, all the more now that he was in a tux.
“I’m such an idiot for letting my chance pass by,” Hina said, continuing to talk to herself.
“Hina-chan?” she heard someone say behind her and she turned around, alarmed.
“YUTO! You freaked me out!” she complained, slapping the tall man on the shoulder.
“Sorry,” he laughed. “But what are you doing here? I thought you weren’t coming.”
Hina just stared at him as if he were joking.
“Well how was I supposed to know you weren’t serious?!” Yuto said defensively. Hina had told him about everything, since she and Yuto were also pretty close and he was also close to Ryosuke though not the same way as Ryosuke and Hina.
“Whatever,” Hina said letting it pass. “Is he really going to marry her?!”
“What do you think? He’s so happy,” Yuto said rolling his eyes at her. “It’s your fault he’s marrying her.”
“MY fault?!” Hina asked feeling the need to defend herself.
“If you persisted on convincing him that Shizu isn’t the girl he thinks she is, which is true, he wouldn’t be here. None of us would be here,” he explained.
“But-“
“NO. Don’t you say I didn’t try. I tried tons of times but he didn’t listen, he said I was crazy. If YOU had tried more than once he would’ve listened,” he said, knowing Hina would pass the blame.
“He’s the most stubborn person I know! Whatever I would tell him, he wouldn’t have believed me that Shizu was marrying him for his money. Besides…I don’t want to ruin this for him…not again,” Hina said.
When Ryosuke and Shizu were nothing more than boyfriend and girlfriend a friend of Hina’s said that she overheard Shizu talking about her plans to get Ryosuke for his money. So of course, Hina told Ryosuke and tried to convince him to stay away from Shizu but he was too blinded by Shizu’s sweet appearance, by so called “love” that he refused to believe her and so she had stopped trying.
“Oh don’t bring that up again. It wasn’t your fault he fell in love with you!” Yuto said referring to what Hina had meant which was back in high school. Ryosuke had been rejecting girls here and there, sooner or later making most of the girls believe that Ryosuke would never have a girlfriend and so they had stopped trying to win him over which made Hina askif he would ever say “yes” to a girl and all he said was that he already liked someone else. Later on he tells Hina that she was the one he liked and Hina being the stupid, immature, change-hating person that she is, said they should just stay friends until she finally realized her feelings for him but was too late.
“Yeah well, it was my fault for saying no and ruining all those chances with those other girls he could’ve said yes too,” Hina countered, this time taking the blame on herself as if it were her fault she was alive
“Hina, he loved you. It wasn’t something you could’ve prevented! And he still loves you!” Yuto said.
“Har, har, har. You’re the absolute joke of the day,” Hina said sarcastically.
“I’m serious! The reason why he’s pushing himself to love someone else is because he wants to forget the love he has for you! He knows that you want to stay just as friends and so pushes all those feelings aside so you could JUST BE FRIENDS AND NOTHING MORE,” Yuto said, his voice increasing in volume by the latter part of his sentence.
But before Hina could reply the two heard something from inside. “Yuto? Who are you talking to?”
“Just do something before it’s too late!!!” Yuto hissed at Hina and pushed her away to the side away from sight just before Ryosuke opened the door, looking for Yuto.
“No one, just to myself. Hora, go back in,” Hina heard Yuto command.
With a heavy sigh Hina moved towards the door and paused to hear Shizu yelling at some bridesmaid. Ryosuke really didn’t know who he was marrying but just what could Hina do to stop him? With what Yuto had told her, she wanted to be with Ryosuke all the more. But she just wasn’t the type of girl to be stopping a wedding! She wasn’t the head strong type with these things. In instances like these, she preferred to run away. But then again she knew that Ryosuke was not the type of guy to marry some gold digger. He wouldn’t like it. But what if he didn’t love her anymore? What if she was going to destroy this one shot of happiness for him even if it was fake because of Shizu’s lies? With another sigh she left the area of the dressing rooms and went to the place of the church where the wedding was to be held. She went to the corner of the room and sat on a chair totally invisible to other people as the shadow of the curtains kept it in darkness as if the seat was really meant for her. A few moments later the organ started to play a song that sounds absolutely dreadful to Hina as if it were a dirge but that may be because she was being hateful towards the whole idea of this wedding. She watched Shizu enter and walk down the aisle like a model and Hina’s eyes go to Ryosuke. He looked…satisfied. Could it be true that he wished it was Hina there? Was it true that it was she that he still loved? She was at a total loss still not knowing what she was planning to do.
The preacher started his opening remarks and later on Hina’s body is filled with adrenaline as she hears him say, “Speak now or forever hold your piece.”
The room went silent and she knew that this was her last chance if she was ever going to stop this wedding. She loved Ryosuke, she really did, but she wasn’t sure if he loved her. She wasn’t sure of many things anymore, but this was it. She had to stop this wedding.
Hina stood up from her chair, her hands trembling as she stepped out of the darkness, keeping her eyes on Ryosuke. Her heart squeezed as she saw him turn his head towards her, shock filled his eyes and everyone else in the room followed his gaze and stared at her with looks of surprise and she knew that the people on Shizu’s side were looking at her with horrified expressions. But they didn’t exist to her. It was now just her and Ryosuke in the room as she continued to advance forward to the aisle and stopped by the first row of seats nearest to the door behind her.
Hina never imagined herself to be this person in her shoes now. So brave and strong, about to stop the wedding of the man she loved but this is what love brings right? So with a final deep breath Hina said, “Ryosuke…I’ve made tons of mistakes in my life. The major thing I regret is not telling you soon enough that I love you.”
The room is filled with gasps of shock, some cries of dismay, and a few swoons but Hina couldn’t concentrate on it all. Her heart was beating so fast and hard in her chest she could hear it herself without listening closely. Her body was frozen and she couldn’t move as she watched Ryosuke advance towards her but he stopped midway.
“But Hina…you said that…,” he said trailing off.
“I know what I said. But that was before and I was stupid for saying so. I’m sorry,” Hina said, shutting her eyes closed wanting to wake up if this was a dream and she felt the tears slipping out of her eyes though she pressed them shut. She was starting to feel the sting of rejection. He didn’t love her…not anymore. He couldn’t be. He didn’t-
“You idiot,” she heard him say, suddenly feeling his arms wrap around her and she opened her eyes.
“I don’t mind that you said no. You weren’t ready for that and I understand. But I’m sorry for pushing myself to another person. I wanted to make you happy and I thought you’d be glad if I thought of you a hundred percent as my best friend and I couldn’t do that if I still felt love towards you. I’m the one at fault,” he said and Hina felt the happiness well up inside her, as the tears of pain turned to joy.
“I KNEW IT!” they heard Shizu yell and the couple turned towards the angry supposedly bride. “I knew from the very start you loved him! You wretch! Why do you have to ruin all the plans?!”
Ryosuke stared at Shizu shocked and finally it all came to him.
“What you said was true,” he said looking at Hina who just nodded at him and shrugged.
“I’m sorry…Shizu…I didn’t mean for this to happen but you’re a great girl. One day you’ll find the perfect man for you. I’m sure you will and I’m sure it isn’t me,” Ryosuke said approaching Shizu and placed his engagement ring on the floor in front of her as she refused to even look at him. Without saying another word to her, he turned, grabbed Hina’s hand and ran out the church with her. The two went to a beautiful meadow away from the commotion in the church and Ryosuke placed his hands on either side of Hina’s cheeks, tilting her face up towards him and kissed her.
“I’m glad you were there to stop me,” he said as he pulled away and smiled at her.
END.
