Movies!

May 03, 2006 12:23

It's been a long time since I've done one of these, mostly because a) I haven't had time to see movies, and b) movies have been mostly made of suck recently. If there are any movies not here that you think are going to be good, let me know. If you think any are goint to be real stinkers, seriously, let me know. I don't want to see bad movies.

I will be seeing Pirates, X-Men, Prada, Lady in Water, Cars and most likely Sunshine.

I also haven't read Prada, only because I heard a few negative reviews on it. But now that it is a movie, I will probably at least try to listen to the audiobook before I see the movie, since the preview looked cute.

Yeah, I'm not too excited about this Pixar movie, not just because I'm not a car fanatic, but also I was not thrilled with Incredibles. But I've seen every other Pixar movie so...can't break the streak now!

I haven't heard anything great about Prada, so I'll just maybe see the movie. That way, if it's not that great, I won't have wasted a greater amount of time reading it. But audiobooks are a great compromise, if you must read a source before seeing a movie. Some people absolutely have to do that.

The Car movie preview hasn't moved me at all. I just can't get interested. Even though I love Pixar, I won't see this in theaters. I'll have to rent it someday; I mean, I can't stop loving Pixar all of a sudden.

I read it. It's one of those uttery disposable books that you might steal from your Doctors waiting-room, but wouldn't actually pay for. The end sucked, but with good casting it might turn out watchable.

Is it witty or clever at all?

I just looked up the Omen remake on IMDB.

I think I'll just watch the SUPERFANTASTICAWESOME original on DVD, especially with the Richard Donner commentary.

Fuckin' remakes...

An Omen remake was a just plain bad idea. I get the feeling it was only even thought of because 6/6/06 was coming up.

I really want to see Strangers With Candy (I loved that show!) which should be released (limited) in June. But I doubt it will be released where I live and will have to wait until the dvd.

Well, my main man Stephen Colbert is in it, so if I catch it when it's in the limited run theaters in DC, I'll go see it.

Agreed on most parts. I'd never heard of the R&J one, but that's a 'skip' just on principle in my book. I do wanna see M:I3, though, because I heart PSH, and I'm really hoping it's good just so he can break the win-an-Oscar,-make-a-crappy-movie streak. But I don't have high hopes.

Deception Point is bad? It didn't look very good...I like DVC and Angels & Demons somewhat...wonder if that's the next movie.

But Poseidon! Come on, heck yes! Wet Josh Lucas? Gay Richard Dreyfuss? Big waves and torment and Fergie from BEP? Yes please! It's gonna be soooo awesomely bad. I wanna see it in IMAX just to increase the crackheaded awesomeness.

But agreed on everything else. :D

I wish I could just see the parts where PSH beats up Tom Cruise. That would be awesome. That would break the cycle you mentioned, because a Tom Cruise beat down would never appear in a crappy movie.

If you think Poseidon will be awesomely bad, then, okay. I think the only way to see it would be in IMAX, just for the total experience of the bad.

Deception Point is the worst book I have read in a long, long time. It is the most implausible, cliche piece of shit ever. I swear.

Oh, seriously. I've seen the trailer a bunch of times, and I always chorus along joyfully with PSH - "...and then I'm going to kill YOU right in front of HER!" Heh.

Definitely going to see Pirates of the Caribbean because...well...Johnny Depp.

Wouldn't see Tom Cruise in a movie if you paid me, though then again, it seems like the kind of thing to rent and then laugh through (like I did with Daredevil)

And, against, my better judgment, I'm going to see The Da Vinci Code. I do like Tom Hanks (usually), and Audrey Tautou, and Ian McKellen as Teabing will only increase my mad desire to see Teabing win in the end (and hopefully kill all the other characters in the process).
Ugh, I did hate that book, but it was because the writing made me want to gouge out my eyes with a rusty fork, not because of the plot. So maybe the movie will be better. (By the way, I haven't read Deception Point, but until you've read "Digital Fortress," you ain't seen nothin' yet)

I will most certainly not read Digital Fortress, as long as you promise not to read Deception Point. That way we will each avoid a bastion of crap.

I read Digital Fortress, which I generally liked, but I couldn't stand Deception Point at all. I think I gave up after 10 pages.

I was on vacation, so I had very few choices but to read Deception Point, which part of me is glad of, as I now have a point of reference for every other bad book I will ever read.
