It was a day of running around on adrenaline. I woke up to one of the carbon monoxide/smoke detectors going off because of a low battery. Every minute, a loud beep would go off along with a woman's voice announcing, "Low battery." And I mean loud. We have a big house. Once, when I lived in an apartment with vaulted ceilings, the smoke detector started going off due to a low battery on a Saturday morning. I had no way of reaching it, and maintenance didn't regard it as an emergency, which meant that I was looking at a full weekend of beeping. So, I wound up building a tower of furniture and disabling it. In retrospect, not my best choice (although there were other smoke alarms in the apartment) but man, that sound gets annoying fast.
