now he gets to go to glamorous Ohio.
My brother has lived in several states (NY, PA, CA, OH) He always said PA was the armpit of the nation after he moved to OH he said "well if PA is the armpit OH is the crotch."

a week from Monday, my kids go back to school. Insane, isn't it?
Yes, it is especially since the kids here have only been out of school a month and have a month more to go.

I never got a chance to wish you a happy birthday, I hope you had a good one.

Our new school district has a 6-week summer break, with a 2-week spring break, and a 2-week fall break. I was actually glad when I heard about it since that's the European model and one of the things I was sorry to leave behind in the UK, but the reality of it will take some getting used to, lol.

I didn't live in Ohio, but I did live in MI (and PA, too, actually, though I loved it there, we lived in the Bethlehem area). After our trip, I would never move back. Visits are fine, but there is no way I could stand the mugginess again after the dry heat out here.

Thanks for the wishes! :)

Go you for being strong!

And wow, the kids are heading back to school already? I can't believe how quickly the summer has passed.

It has for us at least, lol. Our new district only gets 6 weeks off for summer, using the European model of longer breaks during the school year and shorter summer breaks. We still get the mandated time in the classroom, and the shorter summer means a smoother transition for the kids. For all her whining about being bored the day after school ended, Alicia is now all whiny that she doesn't want to go back yet, lol.

Wow, my kiddos don't head back until Aug. 18. And I realize that's a Wednesday, they always do stuff like that around here. I think one time we started back on a Friday. Supposedly to get all the "back to school" stuff out of the way and start fresh the next week.

We have a 6-week summer here, but they get a 2-week fall break, and a 2-week spring break, so it all evens out. The rationale is the shorter summer break makes it easier for kids to get back into the routine when they return and retain more information.

I have yet to see if that works, lol.
