Thanks for the pics, they make me really excited! July won't come here fast enough.

As for rain, was it downpour or drizzly rain? I'm deciding if I can make do with a hoodie sweatshirt or if I need something more waterproof with a liner like an actual raincoat.

Have loads of fun on the WIS tour! I want to get out to the Hebs sometime this summer, but it almost certainly won't be in July because I'll be too busy writing my masters thesis. *headdesk ( ... )

Thanks, I can't wait for the WIS tour. I've googled pictures of all the places we stop on the tour and they are all so freakin beautiful ( ... )

Another food item I'd recommend is cullen skink. It's a thick haddock-based soup, kinda similar to chowder or bisque.

The rain tends to be drizzly rather than downpourish, but I'd recommend bringing a raincoat anyway. Although I suppose you could try winging it with just a hoodie, and buy a raincoat or umbrella later if the rain proves to be too heavy for you. The highlands are a law unto their own and the weather (and temperature) can do anything. The place where you'll most likely need to dress warmly is the Outer Hebrides (Harris and Lewis). I went there in June once and had to wear a hoodie and a scarf.

I have only been to Scotland once, but I did love it so. The one thing I really enjoyed was the Camera Obscura - It allowed me to see much of the city in one stop, and it was very unique.

I thought it was worth the cost, but YMMV.

I think the Wild in Scotland should go by those areas, and I can't wait!

I already planned to do the free tour (as listed above in my tinerary).

I am possibly considering a day tour with one of the day tour groups (highland, timberbush, or rabbies) but I haven't decided which one, and also where. Since WIS goes to the highlands I am thinking either maybe going south to north umberland and Alnwick castle or maybe to St Andrews and Fife.

I did both the Underground Vaults (Mercat Tours) and Mary King Close during my long weekend trip to Edinburgh. I am a massive coward when it comes to dark, underground spaces, however the Vaults didn't scare me at all - I actually felt it was a bit of a tourist trap and the atmosphere was dampened by running into another tour while we were down there ! (the guid was most apologetic about that and said it shouldn't have happened ( ... )

The vault tours and mary king close both sound pretty interesting to me, but I was just wondering if you thought the close was cheesy because of the costumed guides? The website looks a bit cheesy but still sounds pretty interesting.

I didn't find it cheesy at the time of my visit, in fact thought it more informative than the Vaults tour. However this was in the early days of the place re-opening, so they might have changed their style since then (I hope not though!)
