travel with scooter

My friend has a chance to travel to Europe (specifically Bonn/Koln) this fall. Her travel companion would be a 70-year old woman with mobility impairment. She uses a scooter to get around (one that recharges a battery by plugging in to electrical outlets ( Read more... )

Scooters are treated like any medical device- free transport on airlines AFAIK. Battery charging- you would need to take a power converter plug and perhaps a power bar. Get advise from retailer of scooter.
Arrange with hotels etc prior to be sure of a room that is accessible. Consider getting insurance if it is stolen, also some sort cable lock to secure it to a permanent object.
I would go to Fromers or Fodors or similar travelers forums to seek first hand accounts from others. Google earth can show you what the streets look like. Consider some practice runs getting scooter over curbs here before you go and work out strategies.
