I live in Brussels and its a nice, little city. There's a velo system here so I bike over public transport. Definitely hit moeder lambic and taste as many amazing Belgian beers as you can. wonderful staff in the downtown location. It is near to grand place, too. If I had one place for a dinner I'd go to le 9 en voisins, 10 minute walk from moeder lambic. that's my plan for this Saturday. you could think about taking a hop on hop off bus tour which will drop you year many of the sites.

The area between Goteborg and Stockholm is insanely beautiful, there is so much to see! You'll definitely want to stop in Jonkoping--it's incredible. Linkoping is pretty cool too. But honestly, you'll probably just want to pull over a lot--the Sweden has a reputation for being one of the most beautiful countries in the world too.
As for the shoes, I suggest bringing at least one nice pair--lots of places in europe (churches, nightclubs, etc) have rules against wearing sandals and tennis shoes inside, so there's the chance you won't be allowed inside some places if you don't have the proper footwear.

Linkoping is actually where he's working so that's probably an option. He's living in Norrköping for now because he's basically subletting a place from a student friend of his there for the summer until he can find something closer.

I've seen some pictures and it really does look quite nice. I'm looking forward to it :)

In Brussels, walk from Bourse/Beurs to Grand Place, admire it. See Manneken Pis a few hundred yards down the road, then walk to the top of the hill overlooking the city (up to Place Royale), the city lies westwards of you, so you'd get a brilliant sunset and would be able to see atomium too! Makes for a good afternoon!!

Definitely have moules frites and as many different beers as you can!! :)

I've stayed at the Citizen M by the airport a few times, and if it's anything like that one it'll be really cool. I like modern though. Small rooms but quite comfortable. It's kind of weird having a shower and toilet in the room but they are closed off easily enough. The mood lighting is nice.

From the pics I've seen they're essentially the same. All of the rooms are the same design. I got a little birthday money and decided to upgrade from a hostel. The price was right!
