P&O Ferries offers tickets from 30 quid one-way on their Calais to Dover route. Check their website for exact prices and sailings.

I went from Dover-Dunkerque last July with my car on Norfolkline ferries, it was way cheaper than Dover-Calais - I think it cost about £45 for two people and the car. http://www.norfolkline.com

You're going to be solely disappointed - "fine British cuisine" is like, the epitome of the definition of oxymoron.

Are you set on sailing into Dover? I know there's a ferry that runs between Rotterdam and Hull, but I think it takes 12 hours or so.

http://www.aferry.co.uk/ might be of some help?

You might also want to look into advance fares on the Eurstar - I just had a quick look and you can get a return ticket from Brussels for 80 pounds (40 each way, there's no discount for buying return).
