Can't sleep this morning, so I thought I'd post here and give my thoughts about TRON : LEGACY which I saw Thursday night at midnight in Digital 3D.

Please note that there will be ****SPOILERS***** ahead in this review, so if you haven't seen the film yet, you have been warned. haha

As a fan of the original TRON movie, and actually saw it in ( Read more... )

I agree that the movie was stunning! I do disagree about the role of Tron though, the clear protagonist was Sam, and I think it was a lot more powerful to place the emphasis on the relationship building (or rebuilding) between Sam and Kevin. It was about reunion, about a son giving his father the motivation to correct his wrongs and face his mistake of being a "false god" in the Grid. It was, in my opinion, a very ironic and appropriate twist that the warrior who helped Kevin is now against him because of his arrogance in seeking perfection, simply a bystander victim of Clu's lashing out. Thus, Tron's turn to the good side perfectly corresponded with Kevin's self sacrifice, making his last phrase "I fight for the users" all the more powerful after all the atrocities he's been forced to commit while under Clu. Tron helped Kevin leave a legacy of the Grid: Sam. Tron and Kevin's legacy was the next generation, the ISO's, a future without Clu.

They could have at-least shown Tron's face without the mask before his demise.. right? To show that it truly WAS him, and not just say "He's alive." You could tell it was him from earlier on, but you never get to see him take-off the helmet, so you kind-of feel cheated. But I guess this way it saves the movie-studio a few million $$ for not showing Bruce Boxleitner's CG'd face. haha

I've got a choice to see it in analog, digital 3d, or imax digital 3d. I wasn't aware there was a classic imax 3d version available.

I say see it in Digital 3D. Save $$ on IMAX unless you reallly want to.

I agree with quite a bit of your review. I was definitely waiting for Tron to return and help Flynn, Sam, and Quorra at the portal and was bummed out when that didn't happen ( ... )

Makes you wonder if Flynn got permission to use the name "TRON" from Alan for his videogame-name. (like the machine Sam goes behind to find the secret room)

Waiting for the answers hopefully to come in the Blu-Ray/DVD would be nice. ^_^

Being how Flynn vividly remembers being burned by intellectual property theft, I'm sure he got permission from Alan before using both Tron's likeness and code. I'd be too much of a jerk move if he didn't.
Can't wait to watch the special features on the Blu-Ray, too!

I do agree with you on a lot of your review. I think that it would be awesome if they make a 3rd film in which Tron returns (I don't think he's dead either) since there is a lot of potential that was left open for making more movies. Maybe they could have Jeff Bridges do some more flashback type scenes to keep him in the film(s)...

It did have kind of a Batman Begins feel to it...XD

Overall, I really liked it (I want to see it again!... but I may just have to wait until it's released on DVD) and want to get the OST (as soon as I heard "Separate Ways" start playing I was hooked on the OST XD!)

Too much flashback scenes of Flynn, and he'll become like Jigsaw in the SAW series after his death. XD

Sam Flynn already seemed like Bruce Wayne, with his athletic skills, his loneliness, his reluctance at-first to run ENCOM, only to take the helm at the end and assume control of his father's company.

oh, don't forget about the club-scene which had some good action in it. That was my favorite scene in the movie, with Michael Sheen as Castor/Zuse being over-the-top but deliciously-evil like he did as Aro in Twilight: New Moon.

I expect people who cosplay him in 2011 to be just as wild as the character was.

I'm glad they had more scenes with Gem the Siren in it. It would've been a waste of her character if they only had her in that one scene with her "Survive!" line. ^_~
