“Maybe you don’t get to. Maybe the leader, the girl who brings it all together, is the one that has to give that up.”

“Yeah. Yay me.”Buffy was having serious doubts about whether she had done the right thing. Even Xander’s pep talk couldn’t bring her out of the funk, and it had been a really good pep talk. She hated the fact that all his pep ( Read more... )

She'd run five miles so far. Five miles and she still couldn't shake whatever it was that had her feeling like she did. It was annoying in a way Faith couldn't even begin to describe. Realizing that the only thing she'd managed to accomplish was to work up one hell of a thirst, Faith decided to grab a quick drink from one of the local shops rather than go back to her room. Beach street was as busy as it ever was and one of the girls from the club called out to her. Cindy or Sandy something was doing a little shopping, but she really wasn't in the mood to deal with a bimbo, well meaning or not. In her bid to pretend she hadn't noticed the other woman, Faith nearly smacked into the back of a very familiar looking blonde. Her eyes narrowed in recognition and she bit back a small groan. This was something she'd been dreading since learning that the island could pull people from all different times.

"Buffy?"

Buffy spun around, her eyes wide as she looked at Faith. Okay, so so far no cheese guy, no first Slayer. Nothing that screamed this being a dream. Other than Buffy was somewhere beachy with Faith. She reached out to poke the brunette in the shoulder, checking to see if she felt real. "Faith?"

Ok, there was no stabbing. So far so good. "Yeah, B. Live and in color." It was the only thing she could think to say and she suddenly realized how much easier it was to welcome strangers than people you actually knew.

"Okay, okay... I can work with this. You're real, and I'm guessing I'm real..." Buffy touched her fingers to her face just in case there was some kind of strange mud mask, but there wasn't. There was just the bandages covering her wounds. She wondered if they'd healed yet, because she really didn't fancy looking like a kindy kid's bad collage for much longer. "So does that mean this place is real? Or is this one of those really real dreams?"
