I'm back in Austin (finally)After two really jam-packed days in Guilin, we boarded a plane and got to Hong Kong where I almost immediately got sinusitis (damn pollution). So, we were touring this cute little Maxi village today (Maxi is the name of the tribe that lives here) and there was an accident. My uncle's wife (we call her Jiumah) slipped while sorta navigating around this manhole that had been opened up in the stone road and nearly fell in. It was kinda scary. As the subject suggests, I'm in Lijiang. Lijiang is one of those places in China that was up until about 20 years ago entirely isolated from the rest of the world. Up until then, there was no practical way to cross the mountain ranges to reach it. I have escaped the terrifying Kunming without eating any dogs, but now I'm in a place that up until we got to the hotel, I wasn't entirely sure the town had any running water. >_It's VERY rural.
