Yeah, yeah, I know that my second favorite word in the English language is "both," but did she *have* to point out that my brustfleck should be as cool as my sleeves??? I have a piece of tangerine (limey-yellow/orange shot) silk for the base fabric, and am now noodling around on pearl patterns. There's a fairly simple interlocking circles pattern ( Read more... )

Be really really careful of the mineral waters... They can also cause kidney stones from the mineral build-up!

Have you tried getting (or making) a nice mint extract and adding that to filtered water? That is yummy... and probably a lot cheaper than the Metromint.

I have dropped some crushed lemon slices in a big jug of water for drinking throughout the day. There's also this 100% unsweetened cranberry juice at Trader Joes, and I've mixed 1/4 cup of that in a liter of water. Tart and yummy! :-)

I haven't found a good spearmint extract yet - I think metromint uses a steam distillate. And while I love peppermint, I don't care for it in my water. Still working on it, though.

I should try doing water with organic limes, though - great idea!

You might try spearmint oil, then - it's obviously not got the aqueous components, but it's quite inexpensive and a single drop in a half-gallon container with water and ice, shaken, might just do the trick.

This is one of my two primary suppliers, and I've been very happy with their quality:

I adore mint and will put the peppermint oil in my water but I agree that it's quite strong and spearmint is more pleasant.

The other thought I had is that Numi makes a "teasan" in tea bags that is just organic spearmint - if you were to make a large mug of that, letting it steep to max, and then dilute that in a larger container that lives in the fridge, I bet one tea bag will get you through a day of hydration. Not *too* expensive, and probably quite tasty!

Diluted fruit juice is my hydration-aid of choice: I started with half juice, half water and worked my way down to one part juice, three parts water. The tap water in my area doesn't taste very good, and the fruit juice really helps. I use washed-out Gatorade or flavored-water bottles, and a 20-oz bottle of diluted juice is 1 point. I try to drink at least 2 a day.

(Side effect: I can't stand to drink full-strength juice any more, it's far too sweet.)

Have you found the labyrinth up around the caldecott?

No, there's a labyrinth?

The caldecott is much father south than I usually go - I generally go one bart stop south of here and then head upwards, ending up in the gourmet ghetto or at the UCB campus.

I find daily weigh-ins useful not only because I have fun playing with the numbers (GEEEEEEKKKKK!) but because it lets me know what level of daily fluctuation is normal and therefore what level of longer-scale change is meaningful. If I'm weighing daily and have a 2lb change overnight, I know it's mostly reflecting hydration and digestive cycles. If I were only weighing weekly and had a 2lb change, I wouldn't know whether it was meaningful or not in the short term.
