A few months ago, one of my freelance clients asked me to cover a mixed martial arts fight. I politely declined; it was the first time I haven't taken an assignment offered to me. I'd consider myself ill-qualified to recommend myself for such an assignment. I signed on to do music reviews, y'know? I've covered a couple events that weren't music-related, but they were dance performances, fashion shows, and the like. Sports, even fake ones like wrestling, I'd feel a little awkward covering. No frame of reference whatsoever.
