Things I need... like it or not

In a perfect world, I'd abandon my current career track and go to culinary school. Seriously. And not even because I have ambitions of being a great chef. Only because I love it so much. As it is, I've been secretly looking for an MBA program that I could manage with everything else. I'm pretty sure it won't happen in the next year or two. ( Read more... )

I'd love to go to culinary school. I'm just not sure how to do it, what with kashrut and all. I know of someone who did, asking rabbinic questions every step of the way and tasting nothing, but he's a friend of a friend, and I haven't met him myself so that's all I know.

There are two ways to do it, the first is to never taste anything (and check with a Rav for any other issues that may come up... e.g. what to do if you prepare shrimp scampi for a lesson and your instructor is Jewish and tastes your dish). I know several people who have done this.

The only other way to do it is to go to school in Israel, which is not an option for me.

I received my MBA in 1996. I don't know if it has helped me in my career, but it would probably help you in yours. Mine was an executive MBA, I was done in less than two years. It helped that the program came to our corporate campus two times a week and I went to Charlottesville just once a week. I believe UMUC has a decent program.

Yes, I've applied to UMUC's program. It's okay, but not fabulous. I'd prefer to go to GW or Georgetown, but if I stick with a Maryland school, Seth's job pays for part of it.

Well that's something. It can get expensive. I had a friend go through the Georgetown program and he loved it. He studied international business. My best friend went to Marymount's program and speaks highly of it. For her it was about location, she lives in Arlington.

Do you need a smallish tv stand?

I'd shop for your desk if you made me dinner.

Hey, if you come up here and help me deal with boxes, I'll give you my old computer desk. It looks kinda like this one. I stopped using it about a year ago and have been trying to figure out what to do with it ever since. (She said, smiling ingratiatingly.)

I just got a 20% off coupon for Schewel's furniture, if there are any out your way. Looking around, I can't imagine any furniture item I might need...
