Wow, this is totally gorgeous. I love how easy you make it for the reader to sink into Dean's life, the tiny little details of a life that's both ordinary and not. And the atmosphere of this piece is just something else altogether. So much love for this. :)

Love how John wants Dean to have a tiny taste of normal, even though it's not his to keep. It's sad really, how Dean treasures the experience, even though he's on the outside, and when it ends, channels his feeling into doing something nice for Sam. He's so accepting, it's heartbreaking.

man, that IS sad! dean as a child or adolescent fascinates me -- he's an extraordinarily accepting and adaptable person, but i imagine he was a really lonely child. thanks so much for reading and commenting, sweetie. :)

Very atmospheric and moody. It was like a tone poem or a sense memory... I can feel how it feels to Dean, remembering that summer, fragmented memories that are pleasant but don't really have much meaning to him. Everything that is not his family is disconnected from Dean, there but a not a part. So far from normal that even standing right next to it, he still can't touch it.

Great writing.

Oh, maybe this wasn't your intention, but you completely broke me for Dean in this. Your writing is as usual wonderful, so rich in details it paints an entire world. This is the taste of normal Dean had and it makes me so sad for him the easy way he rejected it.
Stunning job!

y'know, i think for dean it was never really an option to join the normal world; i don't think he ever even really thought about it until he knew it was too late. i'm very flattered that this story affected you, and i'm happy you liked it! your story is coming up next, too -- i had to get this one out. :D:D
