[Spoiler (click to open)] I can understand why Goldberg doesn't like defending these elf lords. *nodnod* I haven't quite caught how this "owning people" system of theirs works, but it doesn't sound nice. And now I'm curious about how it does work. :)
Hmm, so let's see. Lucinda was pregnant, to someone other than Tiarna or Thornleaf, since they're both elves. So... Tiarna claims he helped her (and possibly others) escape, it seems?
And Tiarna couldn't trade her on: on his property, he'd have gotten hurt, and elsewhere, she'd have gotten hurt. And according to the twig, she's alive. So... Maybe Tiarna really did help her escape - a good reason for Goldberg not to find him as bad as the others I suppose. I wonder what he's after in the very end... Still suspects Tiarna may have lied to him?
[Spoiler (click to open)]The elf lords are inspired by American slave owners, and the "owning people" system of slavery is extremely Not Nice. I'm glad Finland doesn't really have a frame of reference for it! If you have time and are okay with things that are a bit dry, this link might help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery_in_the_United_States
For understanding Tiarna and Goldberg's reaction to him, you may also find this article on the Underground Railroad helpful: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underground_railroad (It's shorter and more readable than the previous one.)
As far as the very end, what did Goldberg look at right before he looked at his hand? I'll say no more. :-X
I will, however, edit the main post to put in links to those articles for other non-Americans, who otherwise might be confused. Thanks for

[Spoiler (click to open)] Aaah, I didn't pick up the connection! We did have something about slavery in the history lessons of course, but to not to very much detail. I read some of those articles, they seem rather interesting, thanks! I'll have to return to them when I have more time.
I'll admit I didn't know about the Underground railroad at all, that wasn't covered in history class. Anyway, that then confirms my suspicion and makes me appreciate Tiarna more.
... and only after more thought I can really appreciate Goldberg's brilliant tactic. I was thinking it sounds a bit risky to list a number of crimes his client would be guilty of, since well, Thornleaf could just pick one of those and charge Tiarna with that - until I realized that he probably can't. Not once Tiarna is found not guilty; double jeopardy, right? (I don't think we have that here, so I forgot.) And by listing all those crimes, Goldberg can state his disapproval of Tiarna, so it looks like he really thinks Tiarna had nothing to do with Lucinda getting away.
[Spoiler (click to open)]Slavery is a significant part of history classes in the U.S., because it was such a big part of American life, and because it had such a big effect on the country, and because it ended less than 150 years ago. (Which is massively embarrassing.) I really am glad that other people don't have the context for understanding the concept of "owning" other people

Funny, I chose the name "Tiarna" because it's Gaelic for "lord." (You know, as in an elf lord?) And "Macafi--" "Macae -- " however you spell the other elf's name means "sister's son," which is how he's related to AElfric. And "AElfric" means "powerful elf." I am not very good at coming up with names. :( But now that I google the meaning of "Tiarna" as a name, I see that it means "fairy princess." Not sure how that happens...
I don't actually have all that many Sims on the Goldberg & Silent Lady lot, so I change how they look with the surgery station, mirrors, contacts to change eye color, skin-changer vials, and occasionally the creature painting. So that fine specimen of an alien was a surgery session gone wrong plus the creature painting. :)
Well, it's a curse. Curses aren't meant to be nice,,,
[Spoiler (click to open)]Tiarna smuggled Lucinda over the border before the nasty curse was placed on him, probably on a private yacht or jet or something that would count as "his" because of the killing curse that made it so she couldn't

No worries! The important thing is that you found the story, right? But I wonder why it didn't show up on your LJ... :/
There really was a lawyer in the town where I grew up who used basically that line of argument successfully at least once. He didn't lose a single case in the whole time we lived there.
The surgery station works great for increasing your pool of extras, but it does have a high rate of misfires, even when I cheat the extra into platinum mood before using it. If you don't mind weird looking sims or multiple tries, it works great. :)
Glad you like Silent Lady! If you have time sometime, I'd love your thoughts on Goldberg & Silent Lady in general, like you did for me last year about this time. That was super helpful! (And be sure to let me know what you would like in exchange!)
PS: I read a book the other day that had a completely mute main character if you want more inspiration for your own silent character. (And even if you don't, it's a good read anyhow): Winter Witch by Paula Brackston.
Hmm, the book you read isn't released until Christmas eve this year in the UK, according to Amazon. That's the first time I've seen us being that far behind with new releases. It looks good though. :)
I don't know what's up with LJ recently, I'm checking my other favourite sims stories now to make sure I didn't miss any more.
I'd love to send you my thoughts on G&SL again, hopefully I'll have a bit more spare time once we're into July. :)
I think we're further behind you in books coming over. The third Johannes Cabal book hasn't yet been released in the US, and the author is coming out with book #4 this summer. And way back when, Terry Pratchett was FOUR books ahead in the UK as compared to the US. It's something to do with copyright law, combined with how popular the author is, I think.
I think all the new layouts and things that they're doing to LJ are messing up feeds and such. I didn't get your first comment on the new redesigned front page, but I did get your second one, so things are just weird generally. And I hear Jo can't get to her new redesigned homepage at all. :(

I have trouble reading Tiarna and keeping a straight face, that's the name of my friends daughter!
That.Is.The.Ugliest.Alien.Ever. Awesome, did you get him from an abduction? because he's a gem if you did.
*tries to get rid of that picture of certain body parts dropping off...*
So the question is... where is Lucinda?

I love Goldberg's speech in the court room. Must have been a difficult one to defend, but he did it in the right way.
So many interesting looking sims, I never thought of using the surgery station for extra characters, what a good idea! The alien looked brilliant.
Ah Silent Lady, still so mysterious. :D Really great ending as well, I can just see the TV fading slowly out while he considers his hands. :)
