For the G&SL story in the last chapter of Already in Progress, I had to write the whole thing before I could figure out which parts were the important ones to include. Since I had to write it all, why not let you read it all, right? :)
EDIT: Note for non-Americans: You may find this (rather dry) article on slavery in the U.S. and this (more readable) article on the Underground Railroad helpful. I was too nation-centric and didn't think about the fact that non-Americans might find the allusions confusing. I'm sorry! :(
