Hehe, this one is cute. There are indeed some weird sayings in the Yiddish language. My boyfriends mom says them from time to time and when she explains what they mean, I am still confused. >.

I get funny looks when I come out with "Kenohara poo poo poo!" in public. (Something along the lines of "God forbid!," said when someone talks about something bad happening to keep away the evil eye.) I think it's the "poo poo poo" part, but the other alternative is to spit on the floor, but that would probably get me thrown out of more places. >.>

The closest I can come to this idea in English is "If we had some ham, we could have a ham sandwich, if we had any bread." (Not that I speak more than a random word or two of Yiddish anyway...)
