Open question...

So I see other people posting nice CC to share as part of the season, and I admit to being intrigued. If I had something that I wanted to share, how would I go about the whole process? Where do I find the file? How do I upload it? How do I make sure it won't hurt anyone else's game? How can I tell if it's compatible with PCs? And so forth ( Read more... )

Points and laughs! Aww no, I wouldn't laugh, it's as much as I can do to remember how to share betweens times of not uploading anything. Meaning-I forget how.

I think anything you share should be fine for those of us on PC's Esme, it's the other way from PC to Mac that seems to give issues.

I'm not really sure what the 'proper way' of sharing objects are, except I do know if you put them on a lot, save the lot to file, drag it to your desktop and open it with CI, you can then save just those objects and upload them to boxnet. Clothes I know you package in bodyshop and the walls in Homecrafter, again to desktop. Or that's where I send things anyway.

Er -- is there a way to not put my actual information into box.net? It wants a working phone number, but I'd rather not tie it to my real name. There's crazy people out there. You are not one of them!

I don't think there's a Mac to PC issue with DBPF package files.

It might depend on what you used to create the CC, but everything usually gets saved right in the downloads folder like any CC. You'll need to know the name of the file for what you want to share. And it will be a DBPF package file. Of course when you create your content, you want to name it something easily identifiable. Just do a "search" on the downloads folder to find the files you need.

To share, copy the DBPF file into a folder of it's own then zip the folder and upload it to a file sharing site. If the object or clothing has a mesh that isn't Maxis then you'll have to include a link to the mesh or include a copy of it with the texture file.

Lots get packed in the game, and you simply share the file that creates. Same with sims, via Bodyshop.

*looks at Fuzzy quizzically* I've only ever made anything with Bodyshop, and it never shows up in my Downloads folder. It does show up in my "Saved Sims" folder and my Projects" folder, though. I think the one in the "Saved Sims" folder might be the one I want -- does that sound right?

OH RIGHT. Bodyshop saves in the saved sims folder. -__- I forgot. lol... But it's the same process. Just make a copy of the DBPF and upload that.

And yeah, it's the file in the Saved Sims folder you want to share. That's already been imported into the game.
