everything they're most famous for is taking existing, known storylines that exist either in the public domain or in traditional and unprotected cultural heritage, bending them over the back of the couch and fucking a load of Mouse-cum into them until they dance in some musical with a happy ending.More or less. Nearly every film they've made depicting a culture or culturally ingrained story has been a watered down, patronizing mess (with a catchy soundtrack) that completely missed the point of its respective narrative. Pretty much every single "princess, good guy, bad guy, annoying sidekick" formula movie with rotating cultural/historical settings they made in the 90s was a relentlessly inane interpretation of something near and dear to the culture/nation in question

I can be slightly more cynical and joyless (even though i don't really have any strong feelings about the Disney/Marvel merger) because Disney would have totally sliced up and princessed the Ghibli films if Miyazaki hadn't put a "NO EDITING" clause in the contract for the rights. ~;3
