Is this a version of English Issue?

So I've run across wan otherwise good writer who keeps using "envelope" in the place of "envelop" in her stories.

In American English "envelope" is who  what you put letters in for mailing.

"Envelop" is what you do when you wrap somebody up in a hug or are surrounded by fog, etc.

Is this just a spelling difference thing?

For what it's worth, I recognise envelope and envelop as two separate words. It's like breath and breathe, and bath and bathe. Not that I'm guaranteeing that I ever didn't mistake them in a brain fart moment. *g*

Ah, that makes me feel so much better. I try to keep a list of things that are spelled differently depending on the version of English.
