[ it's the wee hours of the morning on wednesday and there are things that have to be done. problems that have to be confronted. a race that has to be won. buffy is sick of staying inside and playing the defensive. she learned, long ago, to confront the demons and that is what she wants to do.

so, under a filter, buffy scribbles a message to grell sutcliffe: ]

You and me need to have some words. New Feather Watch Station, south west of the village. I'll leave my blade at home if you leave yours.

[ this is to be a negotiation, then. buffy has had enough blood on her over the past few days. the novelty has once again worn off. ]

[So they were coming for her? And so soon. Well, it isn't like she isn't surprised. Leaving blades at home, however? Not her style.

Still, it isn't as if anyone can see her death scythe, so what's the harm in playing along?]

[As asked, Grell will be at the station - but keeping out of view by hiding in the trees nearby. She has no illusions about what sort of talk Buffy wants to have.]

[ buffy stands by the station once she arrives -- visibly unarmed, but certainly not happy. she has no way to tell for certain that grell was the one who attacked archie; however, she can have her doubts. and even without those doubts, this moment had to happen.

You know, a girl needs her beauty sleep and you calling me out here has significantly disturbed it.

[She doesn't seem armed and so Grell leaves her hiding place, landing first on the roof of the watch station to look down at Buffy.]

What is this about?

[ ...she has no patience for beating around the bush, so: ] What do you want from him? [ buffy crosses her arms, watching grell with a wary expression. ] What do you want so badly from Jack Sparrow that you would put the people around him through all of this?

[So that's it. Of course. Grell lets out a sigh and holds up both hands shrugging in a show of boredom.]

He broke his word, so I kept mine. He's told you all about that, hasn't it?

Therein lies the trouble.

Forgive me if I can't find it in me to blame the guy for going back on a promise made to the person who...did what you did to him.

[ a hard, unyielding sort of face. she knows what grell did and she is not afraid. jack, on the other hand, had trembled as he had told her. had shaken in her arms. ]

Come to protect your darling pirate, then? He tried so hard to protect you.

If he'd left me alone, I would have done the same. But he insisted upon telling people. [She'd been doing better. Been keeping to animals instead of people. Grell puts a hand on one hip, staring down at Buffy with an unrepentant expression.] He insisted upon insulting me to my face when he knew I could not touch him. So why hide? I gave him clear warning.

Believe me -- I'm not the one that needs protecting. Not from him, not from...[ she trails off. her demeanor might be best expressed in a handy moving image.

buffy shrugs. she is almost being blasé about the whole thing. ] If a person gets shishkabobed with a chainsaw it's their god damn freakin' right to tell people.

[ she frowns. ] Why him? What made you...before he even ever told -- why him?

If I had 'shishkabobed' him, Buffy dear, he would be dead. I left him alive for a reason.

[Not that she knows what the reason is. Grell takes a few steps toward the edge of the roof.]

As for why? He asked. I did what he asked.

And I had to know something for myself.

Because I'd bet my favourite pair of pumps on me being the biggest info-leak threat out of the whole group of us. C'mon, Grell. We both know that I'm the one person in Jack's close social circle with the most village-wide pull. And discretion's what you're after...right?

[ sass. all sass. ] So maybe you should think about cooperating.

[She steps off the roof and lands a few yards from Buffy, walking a wide semi-circle around her.]

I have no doubt you and yours shall come for me eventually. Cooperation or no.

It's... [She smirks.] Exciting.

Exciting? [ a snort. ] You should know -- if it comes to that? You're not the first prima donna calling herself a deity that I've had the displeasure of going toe-to-toe with.

[ she turns with grell's semi-circle. ] I'm not afraid of you.

You need a villain, then I shall play the part for you. Will isn't here to keep my leash and none of you here-- [Except for one person. Only one. But if he finds out, he'll likely leave. It's what has to happen. It's what... Why she shouldn't get involved with mortals. Grell stops and the smirk melts into a cold stare.]

...Of course you aren't. Death isn't permanent here. If it was, you'd be long since buried and mourned.
