Sorry for the off topic comment but I tried to access your site from my new PC yesterday and since it is a FTP server I was asked for a username and password and, of course, was denied access when I had no clue.

Do you have an inkling on how you might be able to help me?

As for ff.net: I have never used the site except as a reader and if you are looking for a slash friendly alternative other than HASA, I heartily recommend tolkienfanfiction.com :)

Obviously, it thinks you're asking for access to upload and download. What address did you try? I can see that it might do that if you go to the core directory, but it shouldn't do that for a specific page. (And I'm not sure why you wouldn't have this problem elsewhere.) I just accessed it, and it brought up the regular page (and since I'm on comcast and haven't even opened aol in days, it doesn't know me from anyone else).

Oh, I forgot all about that site. I'll have to nose around for something to read. I generally don't like to publish to a lot of sites - if I find an error, I have to fix it everywhere, and every site has different rules about the html it will allow.

I didn't even know there was a deluxe edition of The Children of Hurin on offer! Alas, I don't think I can justify having two editions. *pouts*

I'm not surprised to hear about ff.net's slow degeneration; I almost never go there now precisely because a popup downloaded a malignant script to my work PC a year or so ago. I do hope the site doesn't collapse, though, annowying as it is; fandom has nothing else quite like it.

(Reposting - I had an unclosed tag that was going to drive me insane.)

There are so many categories that don't exist elsewhere - no one else has Outsiders fic, and most sites jumble LOTR & Silm fic together. Of course, on the downside, I never even look at the LOTR stuff, because it's so swamped with Mary Sues (my favourite site for LOTR is Stories of Arda).

(Though I must say that my document uploads went like a dream this weekend.)
