random update of random stuff

It's been annoyingly busy at work so I have much less time to do stuff like post. Anyway, a few days ago, I went to McDonald's for lunch since I am easily influenced by advertisements (football commercials). I was pleased to see they added self ordering! So basically, there were two comically large touch screen displays which you go through and ( Read more... )

Not knowing a whole lot about the protests, I assume it's more like, "we can't respect the flag/anthem of a nation that continues to unfairly treats X group" and not against military or police in particular, but the institution in general. So I can get behind it because it's undeniable that certain groups are treated unfairly.

First of all, that is correct. If you go by Kaepernick being a spokesman, he said something similar. And he said he specifically not against the military. But he is against the police. He's posted things like how a police badge is just a new slave catching badge or whatever.

And I understand his/their concern. I agree with much of it too. I just don't think Kaepernick himself is good and a good spokesman. And I think the way they protest leans itself to pull the focus away from the issue.

Of it all, it's overblown and gets way too much coverage.

Maybe you could add some floating wood so the frogs can rest a bit and breathe?
Frogs are so cute, I can imagine how amusing they are.

Our plan is to have lilly pads, but we didn't plan well, so it'll take some time to grow to usable sitting areas. We have several things that are of different heights in the water, but it kind of looks like the frogs like to hide and burrow in the rocks. I'm not sure if they're looking for food (they're scavengers) or if they're just shy.

And they are super amusing! Sometimes they'll just hang out of the Colosseum or lay in a giant pile on top of each other. I think I remember seeing a snail just go over one because it didn't want to move! I'm very happy how we have so many different types of animals in our aquarium (fish, snails, shrimp, and frogs).

I personally don't believe it's disrespectful in any way, to anybody. However, your assessment of Kaepernick being an average QB is correct - he's not that great.

I think it's very minor (just the "do x to honor y" and not doing it). But in the scheme of things, it's not offensive enough to care about. Plus there's a reason for it, versus just being to lazy to stand up (for example).

I figured the method of the protest was meant to be offensive in order to gain attention through shock value, but as you mentioned, it alienates the people who really need to be reached. It's right in line with BLM - they organise a protest to deliver a message but then they start breaking windows, looting pharmacies, and burning cop cars, and all of the sudden nobody cares about their message.

I heard a commentator say Kapernick was like guy who took one poli-sci class and then leaps up on a soap box. He has something important to say that needs to be heard, but he has no idea on how to deliver it effectively. He's a terrible spokesman.

Yeah, Kaepernick definitely comes off as a "college douchebag" who's mind is blown by his first year in a liberal university.

I saw half of the ST:D (that's an unfortunate abbreviation) premier and liked it as well - gotta see if I can dig it up on the Fire stick. Hope they can maintain the special effects and CGI for the rest of the series. I've also been happily bingeing TNG on Netflix.

Looking forward to pics of your cosplay!

Yeah, that is not a great acronym, although I might have seen ST: DIS, which I was really confused what it was until I realized it.

And after two episode, which are apparently a prologue, I'm a fan. I always am hesitant with prequels, but it's good to have ST back.
