Mom would NOT be pleased

Jun 22, 2009 19:58

My mother gave me several kitchen items when I moved into my first apartment over 20 years ago. Among them were several items that she had possessed a long time prior. I have a pizza pan that is probably 30 years old at least, black as tar, cracked around the edges and I would not give it up for the world.

Well, tonight, I was using one of these ( Read more... )

Aw hell, I know how you feel. I have several kitchen tools like that. I have a little wooden spoon that's got to be older than me. If I ever torch it, I will be so very bummed out.

Funny thing is, I probably would not feel so bad if not for the fact my mom gave it to me. Lord knows I have thrown away my share of kitchen implements in my time!

I know, I know. I will expect suitable punishment from you when I finally run into you later this year...or treatment as you deem fit...

I have several other pieces. The good stuff, of course, mom will have until she can no longer cook (which in her case will probably mean she is no longer with us). More than likely, they will go to me, but who knows. I just had to yell "FUCK!" when I saw what happened today...

Well, that sucks. I'd be seriously upset if anything happened to the few remaining pieces of '60's stoneware that remain in my care. I ate cereal out of those bowls as far back as I remember! I could buy replacements off of e-bay, but it wouldn't be the same.

The good thing is, your mom is making more heirloom implements as fast as you put them to rest. Next time you're home, grab the next oldest one and stick it in your suitcase. :-)

It will be fun to explain to TSA why I have a turkey baster and cherry pitter in my carry on...

I know just how you feel. My partner of 17 years died over a decade ago. I still use a LOT of the kicthen ware we'd bought together, and some of it is almost 30 years old now.

I have an old pancake flipper that had some DEEP grooves in it where he'd set it on a hot pan.

I took sandpaper and smoothed out the grooves, so that they won't be places for bacteria and germs to collect in.

I'm terribly fond of it, and would be sick if it ever got destroyed.....
