Things keep up like this, I'm going to need a special icon just for SEPTA. I took the train home from my sister's place this evening, and we got held up for a good 25 minutes at the station. Cause? A man was hanging in the undercarriage of the train and wouldn't let go. It took that long for police to arrive and "convince" him to get off. I'd ( Read more... )

There's also the question of: why? Could he not afford a ticket, or was he trying to make a statement, or did he have a death wish, or what?

What do they do to you if they catch you on the train with no ticket and no money to buy one, anyway? We had a whole lesson in college on what happens if you do that in Germany, but I don't know what the SEPTA rules are.

I don't rightly know, but death wish seems like a good choice. If he didn't try to sneak on at the station where I boarded, that would mean he'd managed to come in from Jersey hanging under the train. I got on at the first stop on the line, with the train beginning in Trenton.

The only info I can find says that people refusing to pay the fare on SEPTA "will not be carried." I assume that means you're put out at the next stop. No word on whether you get arrested. It also says that people who can't pay have to fill out a form of some sort, and if they refuse to do that they "will not be carried."

(Fun fact: While googling to make this icon, I learned that you can scuba dive through old SEPTA subway cars off the Jersey Shore. They were placed there as an artificial reef. Now I wish I knew how to dive, because that sounds like fun.)
